So, I finished Sacrifice last night.

The Good

- Nice to see Ben finally becoming a little more discerning about Jacen. Liked his wariness at the start, and the way he now seems older (and thanks, Karen, for reminding me he seems older every five seconds in case I forgot), because frankly he seemed too young in some of the other books and it ( Read more... )

I really *really* want some Luke and Ben bonding in the next book. They need it. Although the way the series is going they will become even more distant *sigh*

I know! I'd really like to see a change in their relationship, but, I agree, indications are that it's not likely. I did like that at least they had a scene together at the end, even if it was heartwrenching (for all the wrong reasons! ggrr Lumiya *glares*)

I agree about the scene where Luke feels her death. The way he senses what seems like a last touch from Mara was pretty powerful. :(

Mara not fading was insipid. I am certain that if Obi-wan taught Luke nothing else before he vanished into the oblivion of the Force, it was exactly how the Force ghost thing worked. I mean, come on, how could he not? Luke should *know* whether or not Mara could become one with the Force even if she didn't disappear. So many things just seem to convenient to service the plot rather than the characters and their actions driving the story.

That whole thing with Mara not fading was just messy. I can't figure out what we're supposed to get from that (other than be perplexed). *scratches head* It takes away from the emotional impact of her death, because it just doesn't seem to make sense.

And I do like that Traviss at least made an effort with Mara. Mara's characterisation to this point really has been woeful. *sighs*
