Oh crap. :(

I could accept having part of the festival so narrowly defined, if there was an element of "all womyn" for part as well.

That's the kind of sensible attitude that will never win at Mich as long as certain hardcore separatists consider the very idea of a penis too inherently triggering.

*eyeroll*

This is very disappointing, though I am impressed at the care with which they crafted the press release.

I don't think it's just "hardcore separatists" who feel this way, only that the are the most vocal in their opposition. Thousands of women attend Fest, but most of them have offered nothing but silence in response. It's not just tacit acceptance.

It's intersting how the statement opens with an embrace of gender variance--provided, of course, that such gender differences be attached to someone labeled biologically female at birth. In short, essentialism couched in constructivist language.

That's an excellent point. Well, two excellent points. What do you think of the argument I hear from women my age and younger that trans allies are in the minority of who attends fest now? (This being the justification for why the working from within will eventually succeed.)

I noticed that, too. I was searching for the phrase "women" because I wanted to see if they ever slipped and used that instead of "womyn" ...and sure enough, they consistently say "transwomen."

WTF is with "womyn" anyway? I know what it is, but it's REALLY REALLY DORKY.

If Michigan gave me a free ticket, free airfare, and compensated me for the time off work - I still wouldn't go. They suck.
