DEATH

Death

Someone cut your throat. Sickness claimed your body. Whatever the case, you're dead, and chances are, several people are happy about it.

You come to, groggy and disoriented, several miles outside the Deadwood camp in a barren wilderness. There is no food or water next to you, and dirt cakes your clothing and skin. Odd, especially if you were buried. Whatever the method was that caused your demise resonates as a dull ache in your body. For some reason, there are a few black feathers in your hand. After pondering how it's even possible that you're back in the land of the living, you make your way back to the camp. But not without consequences.

Death Penalties

Each time a character dies, they return without a piece of their soul. Maybe it's just one of the quirks of exerting [VAGUE HEATHEN DEADWOOD MAGIC] repeatedly. Below are the compounded results of dying and returning to life.
  1. Anxiety over the most trivial matters. Worry gone mad. The hands shake often.
  2. Paranoia, and a heightened sense of being in danger. Inconvenient fear. The body trembles uncontrollably in fits.
  3. Grief over the smallest of unhappy events. Displaced guilt. Self-loathing. The character is self-destructive and clumsy, tripping over things and so forth.
  4. Total lack of ability to experience joy or happiness. The zest of life is gone, nothing fulfills. The character slips into daydreams often, is frequently disoriented/lost, and forgets important memories (history, people).
  5. An extremely shortened temper. Inappropriate anger. Language ability is impaired, making verbal communication next to impossible outside of grunts and yelling. Seizures occur often.

The fifth resurrection results in a character waking up under bales of hay in the livery. Once they burrow out, a horse promptly kicks them in the face, and Steve the Drunk takes an unceremonious piss on them (he just got off a bender, and hates trespassers besides).

The sixth time a character dies, they stay dead. OOCly, it means they are no longer in the game, and the player may not re-app them in order to "reset" the death penalties. If another player wishes to app that character, mod approval is required.

My character is dead. Now what?

Comment to this post with the following information:

Character: (Given name, family name)
Journal: (the name of the journal of that character)
Death count: (1st, 2nd, &c.)
Method of death: (self-explanatory)

All characters who die in the game are required to comment to this post, for ease of record-keeping.

How long does the character stay dead?

Three days. This means they must sit out of the game for approximately one real-life week.

Can I use this to fudge Activity Check?

No. Characters are still required to meet the minimum activity requirements even if they die in the period between checks. Death is serious bidness!
