To begin with Seres started off as two people-- a monster Martis and a teenager who originally possessed the name “Seres”.
Martis was originally created from the host body of a man supposedly killed during a war with a neighbouring country. A woman known as “Mother” took him while wounded and used his body to feed an artificial parasite she had created, which was sealed within an “embryo” (although it’s more like a blood-red oval stone). Placing it into his chest, Martis’ consciousness as the parasite emerged and took over the body and all it systems. The soldier was completely wiped out and his entire body changed. Wounds could be healed and regenerated at an alarming rate, incredible strength and speed were bestowed upon him, and he became one of many ‘children’ created by Mother.
However Martis wasn’t content with his role as her plaything, and ultimate rebelled, trying to kill her while feigning an embrace. Mother saw through his plan though and stopped him before he could accomplish his goal and sealed him deep beneath her base of operations, chaining him up so he could neither move nor escape. The solitude and hopelessness of his situation and anger towards Mother drove him insane until he both feared her more than anything else and at the same time, wished to kill her with every fibre of his being.
His chance came when Seres’ group broke into Mother’s mansion to try and rescue some of their capture friends and they caused the building to collapse, freeing Martis from his seal. The very first thing he did? Cheese it and flee into the capital’s forest and trying to come up with what to do next. He wanted to run for his very life but his hatred for Mother wouldn’t let him, so ultimately he settled for trying to find a way to kill her when he ran into Seres’ group again.
He teamed up with them for two reasons: one, they carried the food that he craved as a parasite: other failed versions of what he was. He cannibalised the red embryos they had collected in exchange for information he hoped would help them with his goal: killing Mama. The plan fell short when she sent other parasites after them, and by that point Seres had begun to succumb to the fatal illness he’d acquired so thinking quickly, Martis ripped out Seres’ heart and plunged his own stone into his chest in an attempt to take over his body.
Seres himself came from a modest village in the far reaches of the country where he ran an inn with his older twin brother. He was the more passive and understanding of the pair and in all honesty would never have hurt a fly. Ironic since he and his bro wound up tagged along with Kurain and his brother Rakku on their journey to find a way to find a cure-all for any wound or illness. Long story short he gets infected with a deadly disease that slowly crystallizes his body and Martis took advantage of that.
BAMF, NO MORE OF EITHER OF THEM.
The ‘Seres’ that was left over wasn’t either of the beings that had created him. Although parasitized by Martis, none of his direct conscious was able to overtake Seres’ mind, and since Seres had been technically dead when the embryo was shoved into his chest he wasn’t himself either. Suffice to say the manner in which Martis tried to steal his body was imperfect and it caused severe damage to certain parts of his functioning “human” brain.
All of his memories were gone. Poof. Bam. Basically his entire hard drive was wiped clean, so that even if he can speak and move and knows how to walk or eat or sleep (the latter of which he doesn’t need to do) he doesn’t know who he is or where he came from; the only reason he knows his name is because that’s what Kurain’s been calling him ever since he became what he is.
Morals are another thing this guy is missing. Not because he’s a sociopath, but because he hasn’t been taught any and doesn’t know the values of life and death. In his mind it seems perfectly logical to stop someone by killing them, since it makes them “stop” for good. Friendship and happiness and that sort of thing are also distant to him-but he does get flickers of anxiety or anger when he tries to remember anything concerning himself or Mother. Although he does not consciously remember her he still fears her to such a degree that he will start to shake in her presence alone.
In the company of others though he’s blunt and a little awkward, and many time she can be found staring at things with incomprehension. A blank/tired/neutral expression is constantly on his face since he hasn’t quite gotten the hang of moving his mouth to make his expression more animated, but his eyes will widen and he will frown and the like.
In Seres’ mind, simplest is best and it shouldn’t matter what others think. He’s almost entirely egocentric due to inexperience, and is still in the process of figuring out what he is, and what he’s capable of.
