Character questionnaire!

Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
The artbook lists her height as 170 cm, which translates to about 5'7" or a little taller than average in America according to Wikipedia (and definitely taller than average in Japan, which is mostly significant because she obviously has at least some Japanese heritage). She's still shorter than any male protagonist and like two heads shorter than Hank--though of course, Hank is Hank. I have no idea about build, I'm a bad judge.

2. How old is she?
Thirty-one, up from twenty-nine in Second Opinion!

3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
Mostly straight, with a slight slouch.

4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Health. HEALTH. Okay, really, she had a terminal disease for 99% of Trauma Team and then got infected with a killer virus, at which point doctors had to stop her heart to rid her of it...after which she was cured entirely of everything, including the terminal disease. She is actually fully healthy now because these games are that idealistic, really. Otherwise she's perfectly normal. She does have checkups at Resurgam and with Derek when he's available and has some meds related to her disease, but she's never sick like that again.

5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Quickly, a little boldly. Purposeful. She relaxes around friends and Alyssa, though.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
Rather attractive, but then everyone is in this game. Naomi also has a rather obvious chest. Um. She herself is aware that she looks pretty good, though she doesn't capitalize on it unless she's trying to fluster Little Guy into doing something.

7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Clear face, and while her skin tone is pretty normal in Second Opinion she's very obviously the palest of all six protagonists in Trauma Team.

8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
White-silver or white-blue, depending on the game. This series has gone through at least two major art changes, okay? It's longer and hangs down more in two tails in Second Opinion with a little...ruffle-thing at the top above her forehead, but in Trauma Team it's pulled back into a ponytail and is permanently swept back with the same tails hanging a little less (and where they won't intrude as much) until she's hospitalized in the final chapter, at which point her hair is pretty much just a normal ponytail.

9. What color are her eyes?
Blue. Very blue in Trauma Team, either pale blue or just pale gray with a later color change in Second Opinion.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Not really.

11. What are her chief tension centers?
Around her eyes, I think.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
Fanservice Second Opinion: it looks like she wears bandages for her normal outfit and more fanservice an alternate black-and-orange Delphi outfit. For Trauma Team, fanservice a black-and-red suit that leaves her chest exposed for fanservice. Also fur boots coming up to mid-thigh. With high heels. In a game that starts in early summer. She never changes this. Okay, the interesting part: the necklace she wears in Trauma Team seems to be the same as one of the necklaces she wears with her Delphi outfit in Second Opinion (red, black, and white beads).

13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
Apparently, since she never takes them off even in early summer despite all that cloth and mid-thigh fur high-heeled boots.

14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
She is never shown doing stuff on free time. The only other Trauma Team protagonist to do this is S01, and he's a convicted prisoner.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Oh, that's no question to ask a woman!

Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
A little low, can be hard or soft depending on situation. Her pitch raises slightly when she's in a good mood.

2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
She speaks at a pretty regular pace, more loudly when she's being matter-of-fact and softer when she's being more personal. She does pause or trail off pretty frequently; Trauma Center dialogue is filled with ellipses.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Her name, it bugs me. Sometimes it's pronounced Nah-oh-mee, she's pronounced it as Nigh-oh-mee, Alyssa calls her Now-mee. And Alyssa's a little girl, but CONSISTENCY, WHERE IS IT.

Also, there is the pre-summation lines at the end of the first few of her cases: "The dead shall speak. Let's put together the truth of what happened here." The first line dies away after Alma's case, though the second persists to Rosalia's.

4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
Japanese and English, both completely fluently. Headcanon says her mother spoke English (originally from America) and Naomi really picked it up fully due to moving around when she was younger.

5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
She's switched languages exactly once, to have fun with Derek.

6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
Impromptu, probably. She has a thing for cool-sounding stuff as detailed below.

7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Rather eloquent, and tends to say kind of pseudo-poetic-philosophical about death; she starts out all her episodes with lines like "Show me how your life's light was extinguished!" and refers to the Rosalia virus being transmitted via butterfly scales as "death on golden wings" and stuff. Sometimes it sounds cool more than it makes sense, like saying that the Raging Bomber’s "fortress of lies has collapsed" when really Naomi's just figured out her identity and solved all her puzzles.

Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
Very intelligent, more in the book-smart sense. She's applauded by her coworkers as a surgeon just a few years after going into the field, so it can be gathered that she's really good at the operating table and generally knows her stuff. Not to mention the fact that she became a medical examiner probably not long after retiring from surgery-American standards require study in pathology and I think a couple other qualifications for that, though even if she did it should have taken years longer to become a medical examiner than she actually did. But hey, Trauma Center.

2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
She's capable of both. Her forensics missions are more Ace Attorney: Investigations-type stuff where everything is based on gathering clues and putting together things logically to create a case. Aaaand then you have stuff like that one episode where she treats a reporter who crashed in a tunnel and uses a penlight and camera flash to give her illumination while performing surgery and shrugging it off as "Necessity is the mother of invention."

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Logical, definitely. This is the entire basis of her Trauma Team gameplay. She's also a clear practical thinker, especially compared to the likes of Derek. Not that Derek's idealism is bad, but it might not hold up so easily for her.

4. What kind of education has the character had?
I imagine her childhood involved a decent amount of moving, so she had a varied education and then she was pretty steady for university and med school, where she became top of or near top of her class.

5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
General medicine and forensic medicine, obviously. As mentioned earlier, she's likely also studied pathology and a few other subjects, and can apparently cite chemistry facts (like that quicklime + water = 65 kJ of energy/heat) off the top of her head. She

Also, she says after completing the Forensics medal challenge on first response that she's interested in finding out more about EMT-type stuff.

6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
Definitely an introvert.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Outwardly even-tempered, but prone to impatience (Little Guy, stop dressing up for the press) and controlled outbursts when she's angry (dude, locking your daughter up to die and hiding the evidence-not cool at all). Death pings her poetic-melancholy-musing side, since the fact that she's going to die hangs over her for 99% of Trauma Team even when she's come to terms with her mortality. She can be a bit sarcastic at times and doesn't always shy away from sensitive points, like Gabe's divorce. She's pretty driven about 40% of the time, sort of serious-relaxed 45%, and relaxed the rest of the time when alone with Alyssa.

8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
She adapts well to new situations for the most part, as her life is full of them. Her reaction to new people depends on context! With people she feels are reprehensible she can be detached or angry (depending on the transgression-the electrician versus Veronica's parents); with people she feels deserve more sympathy (Joseph Parker, Tomoe) she's a little more understanding. Little Guy...is a special case, sort of. She didn't like that he was back in her life and makes a couple of jabs at their past, and when she's afraid that he's led her into a trap she threatens to reveal his secrets to the FBI if she's charged with something even though he's been nothing but a good assistant up until then.

9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?
This one is a little hard, but-act, I think.

10. Which is her default: fight or flight?
Fight, if possible.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
She tends to make some...less than sensitive jokes sometimes. Like "Little Guy, are you used to lying?" and "No wonder your marriage didn't last long" (granted, she'd been just asked to piece together an unknown skeleton's skull and Gabe was very clearly asking her so he wouldn't have to-hey, this wasn't all that long after he filed for divorce!), though there are typical moments. Usually teasing Little Guy. ("Gabe? He's an old friend. Jealous...?")

Little Guy's attempts at humor never impress her. She doesn't even get his Star Wars joke in Blue Carpet of Death, man. And there's lines like how it's all okay as long as she doesn't get killed by the Raging Bomber...yeah, no. But she does have a real sense of humor! It just takes getting to know her to bring it out. Once that happens, the more she likes you the more she'll troll you in some way.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them?
None!

13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
Accepting Delphi's aid, a deal with the devil; bargaining for amnesty in Europe, her redemption for that deal; realizing she was going to die, something of a punishment for her crimes; Alyssa being caught in the bombing, which she blames herself for; and finding out it was all going to be okay-she'd been cured of both Rosalia and her other fatal disease and could therefore live her life without waiting to die so soon, opening her up to a new life in which she could live freely without fear of death with somebody to share her appreciation with.

14. What does she fear?
Not being able to ensure Alyssa a good life. To the same end, death-she's been coming to terms with the fact that she's going to die and just managed to be cured to live out her life, so really she doesn't want to die either. In SC she's also concerned for the people in general-seeing people suffer in war or because of the witches is always saddening.

15. What are her hopes or aspirations?
To live out a full life peacefully in her current (post-Trauma Team) situation, family and friends and all.

16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
Her past with Delphi. She's trying to keep that behind her, as much as she can.

Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
This is all headcanon, but I think Naomi's mother was sick throughout her childhood and died partway through, which is part of why Naomi later became a doctor. Her father did the same when she was just entering college. Naomi's actual relationship with her parents was okay but not great-most of the focus went to her mother, and then when she died her father did his best but he died too.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Nope, no siblings.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
Headcanon again. Naomi is only ever seen at work, okay? But I think she wasn't really close to any of her relatives (those still surviving--her mom was an only child and her mother's have already passed away; her closest remaining relatives are all on her dad's side), and once she lost her medical license for having magic healing powers they just went "...Nope, she's not ours" and wouldn't have anything to do with her-basically leaving her alone and jobless. So yeah, she's not that fond of any of them, though she doesn't hate them either because it's hard to hate people you don't even really know.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?
ALYSSA. Foster daughter, yes. ♥ Not gonna lie, I adore their relationship like whoa. Naomi loves Alyssa, she's just a kuudere and feels guilty about what happened to the Breslins. But seriously, for Naomi Alyssa is the one who helped her realize the importance of living and for Alyssa Naomi is the one who was there for her when the rest of her life was blown apart (and who she very nearly lost within a week or two of that, but didn't!). Each means a lot to the other. The two really do love each other, and Alyssa is the person to whom Naomi opens up most. Naomi doesn't like to call herself Alyssa's mother because she's not, Alyssa already has parents who died because of Naomi's work-but in spirit, they really are like mother and daughter.

When Alyssa grows up, I think the heart of their relationship won't really change. Some things will happen: I imagine that once Stigma rolls around Naomi will be super-protective, and sixteen-year-old Alyssa is really annoyed that Naomi won't say why until she eventually learns about Delphi. Eventually Alyssa will go off to college (and I can even see her becoming a nurse partially because of Naomi's influence!) and live apart from Naomi. Both will always want the other in their life and neither wants to even really think of losing the other, and they maintain a very close relationship to the end.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
No real best friend, though the closest one would be Little Guy. He was her liaison to Delphi when she was a surgeon before he became her liaison to the FBI when she was a medical examiner. She's come to trust him a lot.

6. Does she have other close friends?
Maybe some of the Resurgam staff after Trauma Team (Tomoe comes to mind), especially Gabe! She calls him an old friend and shows clear concern when he doesn't seem to be going all that well (and keeps in touch enough to know about his divorce not long after it happens), though how old is never said. They could know each other from before her move to Maine or after it; given that Gabe is also supposedly an old friend of Derek I think that Derek recommended the area to her and introduced the two to each other. Gabe may know something about her past (there's a slight inflection when he calls her "Doctor" at the end of the first Demons and Death cutscene, like he's making a joke about something) and definitely knows about her so-called voodoo hotline, since that line came from him.

Derek and Angie also count to an extent (see also: headcanon on Naomi and Gabe up there), though she doesn't see them that often. The first time she saw him after the end of Second Opinion was when her disease first manifested, and after that it's been a lot of tests and stuff and "Please don't die, I'm still trying to find a cure" (which is really stinking scary coming from Derek Stiles the superdoctor). Naomi has a very good opinion of both of them and ships them prodded Angie on her feelings for Derek at one point in Second Opinion. Notably, Derek and maybe Angie are the only ones she's told about her history with Delphi.

7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?
I think not that much-she's had a lot of times where getting close to people just won't really do much for her, like at St. Francis where she's friendly with her coworkers and likes them more than she thought but still hides some of her thoughts because she's basically under Delphi's control; I think she knew she probably wouldn't be there too long any which way so she tried not to get too close to anyone. She gets along with people like Tomoe pretty quickly, though, and she seems to respect Chief Wayne as her boss.

8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends?
Family. Alyssa again.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?
Single with a (foster) daughter.

10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Nope.

11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?
Nobody. I imagine she went out with a few guys when she was younger, but stopped by the time she entered med school (didn't have the time) and never really got too attached to any of the guys she dated.

12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?
Somebody Naomi can trust with her life, who would be willing to accept even the worst parts about her past and her life and is able to care for Alyssa with her or instead of her should something happen.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?
I've already covered her relationship above. Grandchildren...not for a long while. Alyssa's only eight, okay, and Naomi is going to be supportive but very protective of her when she starts dating. Hey, Little Guy, put your FBI agent tailing skills to use.

14. Does she have any rivals or enemies?
RAGING BOMBER, YOU WILL PAY. And Delphi. Really, she hates the Raging Bomber more than Delphi because she accepted what Delphi did for a while (her dialogue in Second Opinion indicates that she was half outsider but still had an idea of what they were doing and was okay with it up to the point where they let her go and dismissed several people to die; I believe that this allowed her freedom to really consider what she'd done, as she'd been repressing any dislike for her own ends previously) and the Raging Bomber just hit her on a level far more personal than anything Delphi ever did, though she acknowledges that Delphi really caused more damage than Lieberman managed.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey scale?
I give her a 2.

16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
Probably good, but not in line with what she wants. I imagine she's relaxed about it when it comes to other people (murder victim having an affair with her boss? Okay...hey, why is the boss's wife so angry? Little Guy points out that it's a normal reaction and that Naomi is "a little too calm") and she really has flustered Little Guy into doing stuff by getting into his personal space. Nothing permanent like a committed relationship, though.

17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Um, well. Being dumb is definitely a turn-off.

Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does she fit type?
Libra and Snake, though the birth date is something I made up randomly for SC. Interestingly, both relate to knowledge and intelligence, which is definitely part of her-they don't fit her perfectly, though.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
She's not religious (I imagine her as sort of agnostic--she believes in higher powers of some kind, but she doesn't believe anything more specific than that), but...uh. Does having supernatural powers allowing her to communicate with the dead and bring them justice through discovery of truth count as spiritual?

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
After getting out from Delphi's thumb and allowing herself to fully realize what she'd done, Naomi decided to make the best she could of the Hippocratic Oath and do everything she could as a doctor to help people. Killing is something she doesn't like-this seems to be one of her own stipulations in her contract with Delphi, that nobody would die of a sudden and tragic "accident" on the operating table-though there may be exceptions. She did tell the murderer in "Locked Room Mystery" that she'd kill him if he tried anything, but he was a murderer for drugs who'd just tried to stab her with a screwdriver and she'd already disabled him at that point. General respect for life and people's lives is something she seems consider very important: she chews out Veronica Cage's parents for defiling her death by hiding the evidence, and she hated the Raging Bomber/Revolutionary because they gloated about people's deaths so much.

Compromise: Alyssa. Forever. Maybe, though she takes her duty to Alyssa seriously.

4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
This depends on the belief. If you're a religious fanatic, okay. Have fun with that. If you're a religious fanatic who believes that mankind is headed for sin and disaster and unleashing a manmade epidemic on the world is the path to salvation, not so okay. If you're an insane serial bomber who just blew up the friendly little girl next door and are gleefully mocking her fate...well. You are going down.

5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?
She actually doesn't display that many. She apparently thought American doctors cared more about golf than patients before she worked in St. Francis and she was opposed to having to work with Little Guy because hello, former Delphi agent faking himself into the FBI, but she got over both relatively quickly.

Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Reasonably comfortable, maybe moderately wealthy for herself. I imagine she was pretty poor throughout her years in university/med school (no parents to support her) and definitely when she got booted out of an entire career in Japan, but since she's worked for Delphi for money and after that two actually legitimate organizations with with major financial backing. I don't think she spends much money on herself, but she'll dote on Alyssa.

2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?
Originally she was a ruined doctor and then an agent for a bunch of terrorists. Then she got some breaks and made herself some more, became an equal or respected doctor for an international health organization. Headcanon says she acted as and was treated like a welcome and respected member of Caduceus Europe, though she maintained a bit of distance between herself and others. She tried not to gather too much attention or make too many friendships.

Currently she's a middle-class civilian raising a foster daughter. All improvements. She's happy with this. There's also the fact that she's the infamous "Corpse Whisperer" (a nickname she detests) thanks to media attention and even some people at CIFM think she's strange or freaky, but she ignores that so long as nobody interferes with her work and goals.

3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?
I think she lived in a small, sparsely furnished apartment before and during Trauma Team and then moved to a small house after getting custody of Alyssa, to give Alyssa a more normal home.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?
Alyssa. Just. Alyssa, okay. Once again she is totally going to be a doting foster mother because it is Naomi's mission to give Alyssa a good life after what happened to her and her parents.

5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?
Naomi describes herself as a researcher at CIFM , though I don't know exactly what she researches. It obviously involves dead bodies and forensic medicine and that's about it-possibly just investigative stuff. Research says that her work likely includes performing autopsies in order to determine causes of or factors in death for various reasons (given the name, likely criminal investigations and unknown/interesting cases of death), along with possibly testifying about results/conclusions in court. She also does detective/investigative work for the FBI as part of her deal with the government, which is only half stretching things in some ways because forensic medicine is half of it anyway. This said, it's better for players all around that her gameplay is detective work instead of real autopsies because it's not hard to venture even further into gross-out land than the game already does.

Naomi originally took the job out of something to do because she couldn't operate and because a terminally ill doctor working with the dead seemed fitting, but she's currently satisfied with her circumstances-her work, her boss (at CIFM, still not so fond of the government), her assistant, and mostly everything else.

6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?
Headcanon again: she likes doing little puzzles, like crosswords or Sudoku. A lot of her time is spent on work, though now that she has Alyssa to take care of she's focusing more on giving her a typical life as much as she can-if Alyssa wants ballet lessons after school, then she gets ballet lessons after school. Chief Wayne's nice enough to let her do it, too.

7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Naomi eats a lot of takeout because her cooking is pretty hit-or-miss outside of curry-either she'll make something good or she won't, and no telling which. Safer to find somewhere that has reasonable food (say, a good deli) and just eat there. Headcanon says she's stuck more to healthier foods herself since being cured of GUILT and Rosalia, and doesn't drink much if at all.
