[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]

Name: Naomi Kimishima, formerly alias Nozomi Weaver
Age: 31
Gender: Female
Fandom: Trauma Center series
Timeline: Post-Trauma Team (about a month after the ending)
History: here. My own write-up if needed is here.

Character Personality: Strong emotions are not Naomi's forte, except in extreme situations. Good mood, possible. Melancholy, possible. Bright smiles or screaming fits, not so possible. Naomi just doesn't work that way, and she doesn't really get why people do sometimes. When she has something to do, Naomi usually focuses on any task at hand and if her feelings conflict with what she's doing, it's to wait until she can afford to deal with it. When being told about her condition, Naomi doesn't even flinch: she's understood that her illness is fatal and she just asks the doctor how much time she has left, though of course it's often something on her mind afterward.

There are exceptions, of course, and Naomi is definitely capable of less outburst-y feelings. She has a sense of humor, which comes out occasionally when she teases Little Guy. She’s touched by a family's love, even realizing how their tragedy unfolded. More than once she's angered or disgusted when people "defile" their victim’s death (e.g., treating murders as jokes) and when Alyssa's hurt by a bomb Naomi has to be restrained from running into the explosion and begins to lose herself for a little while.

Naomi does get attached to people, even though she may act cool towards them. And she's working on the acting cool part, at least where Alyssa is concerned - Alyssa deserves the happiest life Naomi can give her, after all she's done for Naomi and all Naomi's done to her. When Naomi is told her illness is gone, there's a definite difference from her original diagnosis: she's shocked, trembling, and when Alyssa appears the two embrace like any mother and daughter might.

Life as a whole is very precious and valuable to Naomi, and she dislikes anybody who tries to mess with it. She's not afraid of danger or confrontation, either, so she’s very serious when she takes something on. When she figured out that the parents of a supposed murder victim had refused to help their desperate and dying daughter and then hid the evidence, she didn't just report it. She went to the parents' house and rang their doorbell to tell them she knew what they'd done - oh, and she called the cops too so they'd arrive just as she finished.

She'll go out of her way to save people's lives when she can. In Second Opinion, when a reporter on her tail crashed his car she stopped to treat his wounds despite Little Guy's protests, and afterward she mentioned that doing so had put her in a good mood. She enjoys being able to help people when possible, though she's still pragmatic and less idealistic than some Trauma Center characters (Derek Stiles, for example).

Of course, Naomi used to manipulate people's lives too, having worked for an organization of bioterrorists who sought to cause death. She is aware of the discrepancy between her past and her ideals, and while in Europe she questioned whether or not she was worthy to be a doctor. However, by the time two years have passed she's chosen not to dwell on it - just the opposite. She doesn't like to reflect on times gone by and diseases cured when they're of no use and there are other, more useful things to do, which is one reason she’s angered when Little Guy comes back into her life and goes as far as to ban discussion of the past between them. Her need to atone for the wrongs she's committed, however, remains with her and always will - once she gets over the horror of the CIFM bombing, she snaps into a driven need to catch the bomber and atone for what she's done to Alyssa.

Despite her belief in the value of life, throughout much of Trauma Team Naomi had little regard for the worth of her own, knowing that her own life was going to be short. Early in the game she revealed that she didn't really care about whether she lived or died, because it would just be "earlier than expected"; later on she referred to herself as one of "the dead who haven’t died yet." It's only when Alyssa is in critical condition that she really begins to come to terms with her own humanity, in terms of her emotions and her limitations as well as her mortality. And of course, everything changed when she was infected with Rosalia and saved not just from the virus but from the disease that had hung over her for months: now, this is her second chance at a second chance and she doesn't want to just waste that.

Naomi dislikes being made to do things she does not want to do, but unfortunately she tends to find herself in circumstances that force her to: within a few years she's had to help a bioterrorist organization keep their subjects alive because she owed them for giving her another life and made to solve murders and chase bombers for the FBI when she wanted to just work at CIFM until her impending death.

Character Abilities: Most prominently, Naomi is an excellent doctor and surgeon. In Second Opinion, while still young at the age of twenty-nine she is applauded by her hospital coworkers and in Trauma Team she is called "a master surgeon who can‘t operate" (due to illness that is now no longer a problem). In terms of skills she's pretty much a female version of Derek Stiles, and he's renowned worldwide.

Her surgical skill is augmented by the Healing Touch, a supernatural ability that allows her to keep the patient in good condition (a skill that could be used for unscrupulous means as well as life-saving), but by no means is it dependent on the Healing Touch. In Trauma Team, Naomi is also shown to have the strange ability to hear the last words of the dead on her cell phone once she sees the body - probably a more recent development than the Healing Touch.
Post-app edit for clarification: The way Naomi's Healing Touch works is that when activated, she can raise a patient's vitals (which are simplified into a single number 0-99 because the medicine in Trauma Center makes no sense half the time) while she works; in gameplay this only occurs when you get a rating of "Okay"/"Good"/"Cool," which basically means no suturing squares and trapezoids instead of zigzags and stuff.

The supernatural aside, Naomi has a variety of medical knowledge that can be applied well outside of surgery. She's good at piecing together puzzles and mysteries and she could really do her work with or without the supernatural parts. Her work for the FBI largely consisted of piecing together mysterious deaths and understanding the truth behind what happened. She can also improvise in a pinch: operating in a dark tunnel? No problem, just get a convenient pen light and get the unnamed assistant to shine it for you. Pen light dies? She's operating on a reporter, so use his camera's flash and memorize the problem areas to treat in the dark. She's even been able to change her Healing Touch on the fly to imitate Stiles's. As far as fighting goes, she seems to know her way around a gun, as evidenced when one killer went after her at the Cumberland Institute.

Character Weaknesses: Though she doesn't like to broach the subject, Naomi has actually had a lot of difficult times in her life. She tends to lock things away indefinitely until she can afford to deal with them. For example, she definitely had objections to Delphi’s work but she worked for them all the same because she owed them and objections were a threat to everything she'd managed to salvage. It was only when she was in Europe and gone from Delphi that she allowed herself to truly consider what she’d done - and she did, questioning whether or not she truly deserved to be a doctor until she was needed to save the life of one of medicine’s world heroes. Even two years later, this tendency remains: the reason she becomes critical at the end of the game is because she ignored and hid the warning signs until it was too late.

In addition, while she's not the most open of people Naomi definitely cares about her friends. Her friends are an FBI agent and capable doctors so she doesn't worry too much about them, but then now she has Alyssa, her newly adopted eight-year-old daughter who's already been severely injured because of Naomi's work. If Alyssa were ever in danger that would be a huge blow for Naomi - ooor it just might make her really mad, depending on the situation.

On a more light-hearted note, she's not much of a cook - she can make curry and that's pretty much it, so most of the time she eats out. It's not long before Alyssa gets a little tired of this.

[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Meister: Naomi definitely has the control to be a meister - it takes control and skill to be able to perform complicated surgeries on someone. Even for a surgeon Naomi is typically cool and collected, barring the most emotionally devastating incidents. Despite how she tends to get pressured into working for others, Naomi is used to calling some of the shots. Her work with the FBI, for example, pretty much consists of piecing together puzzles and telling Little Guy to get the legwork done.

[ SAMPLES ]

First Person:
[The video clicks on to show a woman on the network, surveying her communicator.]

So this is how it works…

[The woman looks directly at the screen now, and she’s clearly not happy.]

This is for communication, right? I'm Doctor Naomi Kimishima, of the Cumberland Institute of Forensic Medicine in Maryland. I'm one of the new inhabitants here, and I can’t say I'm pleased about this turn of events. Didn't this BREW thing get the memo? I'm not the kind of doctor you want for a war like this, at least not anymore. It's strange that anybody or anything would choose me, since I heard - never mind. Though, I suppose...

[A pause, and her expression grows a little more concerned before she catches herself.]

Still, I can't waste my time here. If there's currently no way to get out of…Death City, then fine. I'll cooperate for now. But I'm a doctor, not a soldier, and while I'm here I'll be working only as a doctor. And soon I can return to Cumberland, I'm going. I won't turn my back where I’m needed, but there are others who need me back there. If there's any way I could at least send a message home, please tell me as soon as possible. I'd like to do so, even if that's all I can do.

In the meantime: I've already received some basic information about what's going on here, but I'd like to know more. For one, I understand that there are people who can tell whether you're - a weapon or a meister, isn't it? If anybody who can do so is listening, then please contact me. If there's anything else at all I'll need to know while I'm here, I'd like to know that now, too, before it comes back to bite.

Third Person:

"Thanks, Chief." Naomi breathed a sigh of relief. "I promise this is just for a few days, until Alyssa is allowed to start to school." Speaking of which, she needed to make the necessary arrangements for Alyssa. Had her school been notified of the change of custody yet? And then there was the change of address, both to her apartment and otherwise...she and Alyssa were just going to begin the house search over the weekend, since Naomi's tiny and minimalistic apartment wasn't somewhere she wanted to raise a little girl for the next ten years.

Chief Wayne shrugged and gave Naomi a kind smile. "It’s no problem, Naomi. We’re glad to have you back - and Alyssa, too. Congratulations on both your recoveries."

Naomi smiled, just a little bit. "Thank you." Honestly, she felt better than that between Alyssa's survival and her own second chance at life (or her third), but there was still more to do. "I'll go find her now."

Outside the office, Alyssa was gone from the chair she was supposed to be waiting in. That was alarming. Naomi sped up her pace and began checking the nearby rooms, and around the end of the hallway she heard the telltale giggles that signaled a little girl at play. She followed the sound of Alyssa's voice to one door and knocked. "Alyssa? It's Naomi. I'm done, so you can come out now. Whoever's in there, I-"

She looked up at the room number. It had been an unoccupied office once, but this was the one Little Guy had gotten since he'd become their so-called liaison with the FBI. Of course Alyssa would be here. She'd come once before, during the case of Alma and Abigail Parker. Maybe she was trying to visit Little Guy again.

The door opened and Alyssa’s head poked out. "Naomi!" She ran out in front of Naomi, followed by Little Guy looking slightly embarrassed to be entertaining an eight-year-old. "You’re done?"

"Yes." Naomi nodded. "Chief Wayne said you could stay here while I’m working once I start again on Monday."

"Yeah! I want to see you work, Naomi."

Naomi should have been expected that. Of course Alyssa would...but Naomi's work wasn't the most suitable for Alyssa to tag along on all the time. She didn't know how Alyssa might react to a corpse, or a gruesome story behind one, but they'd been to her parents' funeral just the previous week. Would Naomi's work with the dead be too strong a reminder for Alyssa?

Alyssa reached up tugged at her arm. "Naomi, I’m hungry. Let’s have lunch."

"Hm? All right. There’s a diner a few blocks from here. We can go eat over there."

The part that Naomi had forgotten was the diner's location: to get there, they had to turn right and go past the ruins of what had once been the Breslin home. They'd come from the back earlier, so this was the first time they'd been here since the bombing. Once they were out the front, though, it was too late. Alyssa's eyes were on the remains of her house within a second, but contrary to Naomi's flash of worry she didn't seen broken up by it. Her face fell a little and she lingered in her place on the stone path, but from the looks of it Alyssa was okay, or as much as any girl could be in her circumstances.

Naomi carefully placed a hand on her shoulder, trying to give Alyssa what support she could offer. She wasn't the girl's mother and she wasn't really sure how to be one, but each of them was all the other had. She'd just gotten this new chance at life, and she couldn't let it go to waste.

"Do you want to go somewhere else for lunch, Alyssa?"

Alyssa shook her head, but leaned in closer to Naomi. "No. I want to keep going."

Naomi nodded. "Then let’s continue."

Alyssa held on to her hand, and together they walked the remaining distance to the diner.
