For those of you who like free fonts, Red Hat has released three of them under an open (as in open source) GPL+font license:
To take a key step toward liberating desktops, Red Hat contracted with Ascender Corp., one of the leading commercial developers of fonts, to develop a set of fonts that are metrically equivalent to the key Microsoft fonts.
The key fonts they're talking about are Times New Roman, Arial, and Courier New.
They're metrically the same to Microsoft's proprietary fonts, which means they're the exact same size, which also means you can effectively replace your crusty, closed MS fonts. So start using these fonts in place of Microsoft's proprietary fonts and free your desktop.
I e-mailed them and asked if they had them in TrueType format, and they put them up here:
Liberation Sans, Serif, and Mono.
