Last night I went to a house party and saw an awesome band called The Fainting Fansies. They're a folk-punk outfit that uses all kinds of fun instruments like the washboard, the mandolin, and the saw. Plus, everything is unplugged, so they made everyone get real close, and they shouted all the lyrics. Totally awesome. I bought their split ep with Cowboy Dynomite, who are also very cool. Against Me!-ish.
Also, Friday was the Arbor Day holiday party which ended up being more enlightening than I expected. It's so strange when your co-workers are casually swearing in conversation when you don't typically hear that in the workplace. I don't know why. That's kinda lame. Anyway, I got to know two of my co-workers who I was always curious about (and I thought one of them didn't like me); they more or less told me I was an enigma and they weren't sure if I was cool or not, but at the party they decided I was cool. They gave me a ride home, and it turned out one of them listened to underground hip-hop, the other listened to electronica, and I was holding down the punk/ska line. So we happily bitched about top 40 radio, gave out music recommendations, and exchanged MySpace URLs (n00b alert!).
Speaking of which, despite my boss working inside a series of tubes for the past 10 years, he sometimes acts like he was working in a bubble. He had to ask me what n00b, brb, and afk meant. He keeps see-sawing back and forth when he tells me to be normal, and then goes on to say I'm just like every other "rebel" out there.
Oh yeah, I should get them something for Cwristmas.
Now I gotta do some dishes, cuz I made a mess while cooking pad thai tonight (not including the food itself).
