Beautiful Baby

My E mail ain't ringing! No calls about the mailing yet. Wall Street Journal called again with a rush job on Wed. night. final due Thurs. at 3pm (Eastern) I was in the early stages of drawing out the next painting for my gallery work. It was coming out nicely. I was trying a new pencil lead that was a mix of graphite and charcoal. I picked it up while at the art store in Syracuse while visiting my friends. I thought it would take to the canvas well and it did. The Journal job was an easy cartoon of wrestlers representing New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ in a cage match. Finished it on time and had just enough time to make myself look human for the"Beautiful Baby"  opening at SOI.  I took some photos for the SOI website. I was only there for about 2 hours and then went home to continue drawing out the painting. Everyone showed up I usually enjoy hanging out with. Met some new artists that were really good and inspiring.  Peter DeSeve was there but I didn't get to talk to him like I wanted to. Murray Tinkelman was the center of attention as he was the one who picked all the artists to be in the show.  Dennis Ditrich was giving me advice on how to get a motorcycle license. My girl, Molly Crabapple, showed up looking like a million dollars and change. She pointed out all her old teachers from FIT who didn't remember her that were in the show, Dave DeVries and his wife showed up and were immediately mobbed by former students and some fellow teachers. Dave was runner up at the Members Open show. The winner of Members Open, Joe Chiardello, was there as well. He's always been one of my favorite caricature guys since I first saw his work!  Ed (I can't remember his last name!) was there and introduced a fellow grad student, Nathaniel Gold (he gave me his card), to me that said he wanted to interview me for a paper he was writing.

Fri. I blocked in the color for my painting. Did some running around town and came back to an e mail from some guy who wants to buy the WSJ piece. Ray Lago called as I was responding to him to see if I'd come in and talk to his FIT class about caricatures. He took over Dave DeVries' class. Small world. Tomorrow (today, Sat) I'm at Dr. Sketchy's to draw GiGi LaFemme (I think). I also have to do a caricature of Lewis Farrahkan (sp?) for Phoenix New Times. I'm also trying to get my web guy to retool my home page with new copy and a new image of my latest card. He's on his own schedule.
