The Date, The Rebirth and The Mic

So I'm sure many of you or maybe one or two, are wondering how the date went this last Friday. Well, I believe it went fairly well if I may be so bold. We had dinner at Bilbo Baggins, walked to Ben and Jerry’s for some ice cream, walked along the water front, and then went to the Rock It Grill and laughed at some folks who thought they could sing (and a few who actually could). Will there be a second one, I would hope so, but this week and the next are pretty busy for the both of us so we shall see. We at least will see each other at the kickball Mid Season party on Saturday. If anyone is wondering what I will be dressing as for the party all I can say is do you know Tyler Durden?

So last night was the official rebirth of ECW on PPV and I found one thing above all others very interesting. In its heyday, ECW was known as the most influential promotion when it came to other companies. What they did, the other two emulated and tried to steal that rare magic. Well, last night showed me that ECW was no longer that influence, that the company that took their place has taken that spot as well. Yes that's right; I saw more of a Ring of Honor influence then anything else last night. From the fans chanting Joe Is Going To Kill You, wait sorry, I mean Kurt. They also had the reactions of a typical Ring of Honor crowd, hell; they even threw toilet paper at John Cena.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that last night's crowd may have been the best crowd I have ever seen on TV. The two matches that stand out in my mind are the Kurt/Orton match and the main event. I have never seen a crowd get that kind of reaction from wrestlers, and I've never heard a more entertaining crowd. Same Old Shit chanted at John Cena? That was worth the money paid. The matches itself were, eh, though I do LOVE Kurt's new shoot style. Funk proved that he is without a doubt the toughest man to ever have lived on this fucking planet. It was also nice to see Paul go to the cupboard and use traditional ECW gimmick like the motorcycle helmet.

It was somewhat poetic that in one match the guy who looked the best, looked the crispest, and was the guy who had been wrestling in ROH for the last year. The show Tuesday should tell us what they really plan on, though last night could have done with one maybe two more matches. Hell, they had the people, why not use them? Even if it was just Jazz vs. Trinity, it would have been better then nothing.

In other news I have to do my research now and study old Joey Styles commentary. I have now become the commentator for the EWA and apparently I will be doing the commentary solo. The only man really to do this with any kind of success before is Joey Styles and as such I must study. If you noticed the name change on MySpace this is why, I will be doing commentary as Shane Rollins. I cannot thank the folks at the EWA enough for this opportunity. I plan on taking this ball, running with it, and scoring like I was Jim Brown and Walter Payton's love child.

It's quite special too to be calling your first show and having King Kong Bundy, The Patriot and Doink the Clown on the card. Not to mention some of the biggest names on the East Coast in the world of Indy wrestling. Ruckus, DJ Hyde, Derrick Frazier, Marcus Jordan, and the like should make it a great night. I urge EVERYONE to come to both shows on June 24th. Hell, the first show is bloody free with Bundy vs. the Patriot as the main event?! How can you argue with that price, let alone CHEAP BEER (as in price not taste)? Everyone in the Maryland, Virginia, DC, Pennsylvania and New Jersey area should come on down and attend the show.
