Wow what a crazy great 48 hours it's been. Starting with the fact that I was halfway done with my post online when I got kicked off and lost all of it. Always great fun I must say. Anyway.....Chapter 1 : THE STROKES!
FRIDAY
I woke up [not hung over], took a shower, set arrangements to meet Jon & Clint, got ready and walked the 20 minutes to the train station. Took the train into NYC, met Jenn at 2 o'clock, soon met with Laura then we went up to the car rental place. There we met with Clint & Jon and left to Rhode Island. It was such a crazy ride up there. It took us 5 hours to get up there, damn traffic!! What we witnessed in those 5 hours included: a warehouse on fire, almost running over a puppy who was running happily across the highway, a huge rainbow that I had to take a picture of, a vicious storm with lightening that made us think we were going to die, and at last the sign that said "Welcome To Rhode Island"! We got to the venue and met with Jenn's friends, I had only spoken to Michelle through e-mail before they were all very nice and kept spots for us up in the front. The whole time before the show started I kept looking around seeing if I could see James or even Chris whom Helen told me was up in Providence for the show. I didn't see either of them sadly..
Sea Monkey Stew, the opening band was sucked so so so so badly. They were like a highschool punk band with all the same riffs and false endings in every song. They kept plugging in their website and once said "www.www.www...." I lost my temper and shouted "shut the fuck up" anyone who was sane would have done it. FINALLY at 11 The Strokes came on stage. I nearly lost control of myself when I saw Nick come on stage with his big hair and all....wow he is so goregous... All the boys were in top form and put on one hell of a great show. The audience was craaazy there was so much pushing, shoving, and jumping around, it was by far the roughest show I have ever been to in that sense.
Everyone there left sweaty but so happy. The show was outstanding, they even played New York City Cops AND the new song which was so fantastic. I took too many pictures of Nick...actually I take that back, no amount of pictures is too many of Nick!! All in all the show was fucking great. Sometime during the set inbetween songs this guy kept yelling "the strokes suck" "the strokes are faggots" Julian couldn't deal with it, jumped off stage and punched him. The rest of the band dropped their instruments and went to see if he needed any back up, of course he didn't he jumped right back on stage and finished up the show. Highlight songs were : Someday, Take It Or Leave It, NYC Cops, and Hard to Explain! [sure half the set or so but they were all so great!!]
Right after the show we hung around for a bit, and as the people left, the band walked around the venue talking to their fans. I first talked to Albert for a bit he was SO nice it was too much to take in. He kept telling us about this party they might go to, and gave me the map some girl made for him and told me I could keep it, but I gave it back and said we couldn't go he just threw it on the floor and said "i can't either!" it was really funny. We saw Nick by and I had Laura & Jon push me over to him, I was so nervous but I got his autograph and had little chit-chat about how we came up from NY and where he went to school....oh I love him so much!! I saw Ryan Gentles walking around and just called out "hey Ryan!" he turned around and walked over and was like "hey, do i know you?" I was just like "nah, not really I e-mail you now and then though" he was all "oh yeah?! what's your name?" I told him my name he said it was nice to meet you and gave me a hug & kiss. So began the love for Ryan. He was sooo nice we talked about coming up from NY for the show, how he and the band hate England, his watch, the Hammerstein gig and getting back stage! He was all surprised when I asked him for his autograph and was like "I should be asking YOU guys for YOUR autographs! woah you have the Austrailian version! I like this picture of me, not the one in the British one, i look like an idiot in that one!" Dun Dun Dun I love Ryan....
Somehow after talking to Ryan and finding Jenn & Michelle and the rest of them, we all ended up backstage hanging out with The Strokes. Well just Nick & Albert at first. We chitchatted, drank water out of their fridge, watched them flip out over the fact that there was no more beer left, watched Albert smoke pot and offer us some, too bad I didn't say yes! Some other fans smoked with him though, it was just all too much to set in my mind. Jules came in and was off his head, he was all "yoooo how are there soooo many people in hereeeeeee, ryyyyan you let everyone in again didn;t youuuu" haha Jules is TOO funny. I got his autograph and heard him ramble for a few moments, it was really really surreal. Laura & I then went out into the hall to talk to Nickolia and get his autograph, jesus that was a fucking feat in itself. That guy just does not talk! We were telling him how they have to dress up for the show, and he kept saying "i don't know" i told him to dress like superman, and he said "i don't know" then we told him he had to dress up for the show and he was just like "we'll do something better" then Laura asked him "what would that be" he just starred at us adn said "that's a good question we haven't thought of it!" hahahaaaa WEIRD kid that Nickolia. NEXT was th best, hanging out and talking to Fab. He is so so so nice, it turns out that the picture Jenn & her sister drew is the desktop on Ryan's laptop. Fab had Ryan go back into another room to show Jenn the desktop on the laptop. Fab stuck his head out shortly after waving about the cover of the album sleeve saying "THIS ISN'T ME THIS ISN'T ME! THIS IS A FUCKING MEXICAN DRUGLORD!" ahh sooo funny! We just hung out there until 1:30 or so, it was just so much fun. We ended up leaving at 1:30 when the people at the venue kicked us out more or less. We left after talking about the horror that is british bacon with Fab sitting on stage, and Julian laying on his back on the stage rambling about god knows what. OH hahah, Fab told us that his breaking his hand in Scotland wasn't from falling out of the bus but from punching some guy at the pub! ahhh I love these guys!
SATURDAY
After our outing with The Strokes we drove all the way back to New York City, arriving at 5:00 baaaaaaaaybeeeeeee. Jenn & I were starving so we made spaghetti at 5:30 in the morning when her roommate Julia and her friend were getting ready to go on their road trip blah. We ate, gushed about The Strokes, then passed out from happiness and exhuastion. Jenn woke me up when she did, again at 2pm! We hung out for awhile then I went downtown around 5 to visit Shea. I hadn't seen him since mid July right after I got back from England. It was really nice to hang out with him and play him music and of course talk about the strokes! He says he'll go to 2A for me and put in a good word for me with Nick hahah! Too bad the band had to leave at 3am, I was getting along so well with him! Even if he & Jules were snorting coke in the bathroom, that's OK, just not my thing. Anyway, I was by Shea's till about 8:30 then took the train back up here. I called Sue from Grand Central before I left and she told me that instead of 8 people 18 people were coming over.
When I got here to the apartment, there were like 4 guys, Brian, and Tara. Chrissy came home and asked me to go down and help her with her stuff. On my way downstairs I overheard guys from the apartment downstairs singing Song 2 I was so temped to go knock on their door, but told myself I would do so later. Chrissy got upstairs, got pissed off and nervous just like I that we would get in trouble having so many people over drinking, smoking, and doing drugs. Oh yeah, this was after the superficial girl friends of Sue's co-worker got here. Yuck. Anyway, Chrissy, Brian, & I split and Brian introduced us to the guys across the call from him. Only 2 of the guys were there and a few of their friends...they were really nice. We ended up deciding to go to the bar. Chrissy, Brian, Craig [kid we just met] and I got in easy with Craig being that he's in a frat we all sat at a table talking and drinking [after I said I wasn't going to drink since doing so much that afternoon] but then SURPRISE Craig knew britpop. I nearly died...i cannot believe it, I really can't but the best is to come.
We talked about his friends that live downstairs and were singing Song 2 and things, he called over this kid Gilbert and we got to talking. So fucking great. Chrissy made fun of my socks, he complimented me on them, he came up with me to the bar when no one would. This kid is just so great. Even let me have some of his dear jack & coke. HE KNEW WHO THE STROKES WERE his qoute exactly "oh yeahh the strokes i read about them in Q" i nearly blacked out i was in such shock. We talked and talked and talked having drink after drink. He asked me to hang out next weekend but realized he wasn't going to be here, but it was OK i'm not giong to be either. Then he told me to come by during the week, and it ended with me set to come by today to have dinner and watch the blur videos video. Ahh, so fantastic. He didn't believe that I would hang out, but I assured him I would. And he said "good, cause i like you a lot". Punk boys who look like emo boys who hate emo.....AND from baltimore. Fabulous ladies and gentlemen, fabulous. Can't wait till tonight
