Another AZ Sheriff made headlines this week, they seem to have a knack for getting attention although this isn't the kind of coming out party Sheriff Paul Babeu wanted. NPR and others raised the issue that he only had to resign from Romney's campaign because he was gay. That's wrong since there are serious allegations of misuse of office. They may turn out to be flat wrong but I can imagine NPR's forced shock if he remained where he was.
But to credit NPR, I was also taken aback by the sympathy Babeu is getting from the local conservatives. So far everyone on my FB has supported him, including the most prolific political status updater:
http://www.icarizona.com/2012/02/my-how-time-flies-regarding-sheriff.html Paul Babeu is a man of impeccable character who has offered his life on a daily basis both in military service and later as a law enforcement officer who eventually was elected Sheriff.
I didn't predict that either, but in the future it might be more accurate to look up what NPR's Washington HQ says about Arizona and then predict the opposite.
