Trying ... to ... Walk ... Away

Wasting time arguing about Silent Hill started to depress me.  It was interesting to see how other people interpret a story and contrast it with my own methods learned in my English lit MA school.*  It became considereably less interesting once I figured out that I was going to be called "ignorant" for not sharing the other guy's interpretation.

That's most arguments, this one just soured a bit sooner than normal.  I'm really going to try to not reply for a while.

I tend to use "New Criticism" which isn't new anymore but still useful.  That looks at the art in a vacume and only examines only what is seen.  However most fans google up the director and writer and say what he says is the "correct" interpretation.  Both approaches have value.  But the first one is so foreign to regular fans that you get treated strangely for using it.  It reminds me of arguing Lost years back where everyone looked to the extra stuff the producers were putting out to get the meaning.

At least we can agree that it means the producers a very good at marketing their art.
