I never like these things because I get nervous trying figure out what I am supposed to be doing. But you just sort of find yourself at these "cocktail party" things because they are kind of common, especially in the legal industry where they are virtually a job requirement. Of course exact words count but I'm just doing my best to reconstruct what happened that night.
Tuesday night at a full cocktail party of mostly strangers is scary so a bright idea came to me. Instead of asking lawyers about how to get a career, I'd mention some criminals we read about in class the other day and see how they felt. And it worked like a charm. One of the assistant DA's said something I could intern for the fall and work on the same cases. Yes! And then one of the nearby local firm lawyers said I could work for him on the Casey Anthony [I assumed the arising civil cases] for him part time next year.
I swam over to the food table and suddenly the tall ex-volleyball girl I really like from my class come up to me.
'And now I am going to wake up' I chirped
"Huh?" I heard her say. Apparently my humor will take all 3 years to set in.
Oh I just got a internship chance and a job offer by reciting some vague recollections from Fox News. These cocktail parties are too good!
"Oh wow," I heard her say grabbing my arm. "You really know how to lawyer network."
Well, the 'work' is only half of "network" The point is human side of people, because you know baby, any 2 humans can really-

Yeah, well at the time I believed it too. That's how they're supposed to go.
