Dude...no. Those damned Alliance cities are laid out piss poor! And the barren Horde landscape is good, it means I don't have eye bleed from the obscene amounts of purple and green. (LOL, I actually think city layout hatred is based soley on where you start out =p)
Glad school is going well. Humanities Grad school, it's pretty much Kindergarten...
while I think there is something to be said about it being what you are used to, Iron Forge is by far better laid out then any horde city. You can get everywhere with no problem, no multiple level or one track routes to things, everything is easily accessable.
Plus I do prefer alliance story stuff. Definitely much tighter and in my opinion very obvious that especially the old world stuff, alliance was done first and not rushed
I've only been to Iron Forge as my Horde character so...no time to enjoy the layout. Darassus and Stormwind make me ANGRY. As for story, I tried not to pay too much attention early on, in too much of a rush to get to Northrend. Stupid Alliance, they get all the nice things.
Stormwind doesn't really have all that great of a lay out. Darnassus is laid out horribly. Really the only well laid out Alliance city is Ironforge.
The old world Alliance quests are better I think, but Horde has some really good Outland storylines, and I've only done a little bit of Northrend but what I have done has been pretty cool storywise.
Stormwind isnt great but its not bad, especially if you have an easy way to cut across the channels (yay water walking)
Darnassus and the Exodar are horribly laid out.
However Ogrimar, and Silverymoon are poorly laid out to get anywhere easily and quickly (although once again I bow to silverymoons prettyness)
Once again I can only speak to old world quests and I would assume Horde stuff gets brought up to par in the expansions, however, that doesn't discount the 50+ levels of crap to get to it.
Although I will say having run around Silvermoon city enough with a bunch of low level Blood Elves, it actually has quite a few short cuts which make it easier to get places. Some of them are just not terribly obvious.
The Alliance cities failed to ever really peak my interest. I am a big fan of Dal though, it's small enough to get around quickly while still being packed with useful things (particularly a bazillion mail boxes!)
As far as quest lines-story stuff goes, the human stuff is just FANTASTIC, but other than that, I really like the shamanistic quest lines that you get on the hoard side.
Northrend has some seriously fucking epic story stuff in it. I'm not done questing yet...still have 3 zones to do. Hard to keep my mouth shut around Tony though :P

I think both sides have their own merits.
