Personality |
Lust is a master of manipulation. She knows how to read people very well. Lust can pick up on people’s underlying desires and exploit them. She’s good at making people think she’s working to benefit them when she’s really only ever working to her own ends and toward her Father’s. She knows just how to answer the inevitable “What’s in it for you?” without coming across as threatening or too altruistic to be believed. Lust chooses her words carefully and dangles offers like bait on a fishing line. She’s also quite subtle and prefers to work behind the scenes. Fame, wealth and glory are of no interest to her whatsoever and the only political power she’s interested in is the kind that lets her function as a puppet master from the shadows. If she’s out in public, it’s with her Ouroboros tattoo concealed and a sweet smile on her face. She only shows her true nature out of the public eye.
For someone named Lust, she isn’t actually all that lustful. Rather, she is conscious of her own attractiveness and enjoys being the object of other people’s lust. It’s one more thing that allows her to manipulate others. Generally, Lust is as business-like about sex as she is about many other things. It’s something to be bartered and traded in exchange for something she wants rather than an activity she’ll engage in solely for pleasure. This isn’t to say that she doesn’t enjoy the activity - she does. It’s just not something she’ll seek out if there’s no other benefit than physical pleasure. She regards it as a base carnal drive that humans are often compelled by. Useful enough, but not something that she’s personally motivated by. It is, like most things, a means to an end. More enjoyable than some things, and that’s all there is to it.
Lust possesses a certain disdain for humans. She thinks of the majority of them as weak and foolish. There are exceptions that can gain her grudging respect, but make no mistake. It is most definitely a *grudging* respect. She also holds a higher opinion of humans that are useful to her or interesting in some way, but it’s more the way a person regards a pet who can do an amusing or useful trick rather than the way one regards an equal. She can acknowledge competence and intelligence freely enough, though if she’s acknowledged those traits in a human, she either wants to personally finish that human off or has some purpose in mind for that human. Usually if she’s being nice to a human, it’s because she wants something. Lust has a socially sadistic streak. Because she doesn’t have much regard for humans, she typically sees them as playthings. Their feelings are something to be toyed with and used accordingly to get what she wants. She puts on a harmless facade to get close to people and then discards them once they’re no longer of use. She generally doesn’t care if they are suffering, and sometimes regards it as amusing.
The only people Lust ever regards as equals are other Homunculi, and Father is the only one she regards as being superior to her. The other Homunculi are Lust’s family, and she actually does love them in her own way. She can co-operate with them and easily work with them - usually as the unofficial leader, but she’s willing to take suggestions. Unlike with humans, she doesn’t manipulate her family members and wants what is best for them. It’s the most apparent with Gluttony, who she chides affectionately like one would to a much younger brother, but also shown in the way she teases Envy and the way she speaks to Wrath on the phone. Lust guides the much less intelligent Gluttony and tells him what he can and cannot eat. Gluttony is shown as being dependent on Lust as well. She teases Envy about his nasty personality but speaks in a fond tone as she does so, and expresses a preference for his real appearance rather than any human appearances he might fake (which has more significance than it might seem since Envy hates himself). When speaking with Wrath on the phone, her tone is quite casual and sociable rather than strictly business. Even though he is the Fuhrer President of Amestris, she calls him by his title light-heartedly. She’s a little less pleasant to Greed, but that’s because he had betrayed their Father 100 years ago. Much of what Lust does is for her family’s sake and she is loyal to them. Even so, she seems pleasantly surprised to see him when Wrath brings him to their Father, remarking that she hasn’t seen him in a very long time. She is never given any on screen time with Sloth and Pride, although she is shown to keep tabs on Sloth, mentioning that he always skips out on meetings and is busy working. Aside from carrying out Father’s wishes, Lust’s feelings for him are shown when she is called a monster. Lust replies completely seriously that Homunculi have feelings and love for their parents.
Possessions | The Philosopher’s Stone in her body, and the change of clothing she puts on when she’s calling herself “Solaris” - a modest long sleeved dark purple shirt and skirt combo.
Character Abilities/Powers | Lust’s greatest power is called “ultimate spear”. All of her fingers can extend, become extremely sharp, and are powerful enough to pierce diamonds. Although her hands are the strongest part of her body, the rest of her body is still more durable than a human’s, as shown by her wounds when she’s shot at close range numerous times in the series - only half of the bullets actually get through her. She’s stronger than a human, too. For example, she can crack walnuts between her breasts, and has the physical strength needed to cut through solid metal in a single effortless slice. She moves at varying degrees of superhuman speed, with her fingers being capable of shooting out at about the same speed that bullets fire from a handgun. Her legs move faster than anyone could be expected to in such a close fitting dress, but an athletic human wearing clothing that allowed for reasonable freedom of movement could successfully sprint away from her. She also possesses superhuman pain tolerance (she barely flinches even as bullets are being shot into her) and superhuman endurance.
As for powers she won’t have in Atollo (until characters are allowed to have passive healing abilities, at least), she possesses considerable regenerative ability and technical immortality. It is possible to kill her permanently - but one has to kill her repeatedly until she runs out of lives in the Philosopher’s Stone in her body. As long as the Philospher’s Stone is in tact, she can even regenerate from having the majority of her body incinerated. Once it runs out, though, the Stone and Lust will crumble and turn into dust.
Weaknesses/Fears | One of Lust’s greatest weaknesses is her tendency to make broad and negative assumptions about the foolishness and weakness of humans. She often underestimates humans until she sees proof of their competence. Even then, she believes the highly competent individuals she encounters are the exceptions to her usual opinion instead of altering her opinion of humanity.
Although her devotion to Father is admirable in its own way, it is also a weakness. Lust doesn’t take the time to consider her own hopes and ambitions. Although she’s certainly clever and adaptable, she’s never had her own independent purpose.
The thing Lust would be most afraid of losing would be her Philosopher’s Stone. It’s the reason she’s able to exist, but more than that, it also represents her connection to Father and her siblings. Lust has lived long enough and technically died multiple times, and doesn’t fear death itself, but she hopes to avoid dying in a mediocre and ordinary way.

[Lust’s lack of familiarity with this little device’s technology is precisely why she’s being so cautious with it. She wrapped it in fabric as she pulled on the one spare set of clothing she arrived here with. An outfit she had made specifically to be “Solaris” and try to get information out of Jean Havoc. She doesn’t know if anyone in Atollo will recognize the symbol of Ouroboros on her chest, but it’s better to err on the side of caution. Humans are easily fooled and Lust prefers to be underestimated until the last minute. Finally, she unwraps the little device and turns it on. The camera reveals a woman with dark and wavy hair, a fair complexion and dark lipstick. She smiles pleasantly.]
Ah, hello. I do hope I’m using this correctly. There was nothing like this little device at home...
[She puts her hand to her cheek and averts her gaze from the camera for a moment. If there’s something Lust understands, it’s the power of a first impression. It’s better to seem a little bit meek and unsure of herself. She knows from experience that it’s a good way to draw people in and encourage them to be helpful.]
Oh, how rude of me. My name is Solaris. It’s a pleasure to meet all of you, though it is a shame that we aren’t meeting under better circumstances.
[She twirls her finger through her hair for a moment.]
I still don’t understand why I’m here, and I’m worried about my family back at home...but I suppose in the meantime it would be best to find myself some work. I have some skill as a seamstress and I have experience with organizing important documents and keeping them confidential. If someone needs a secretary or a seamstress, please let me know.
[Lust offers a warm smile to the camera.]
As for the rest, please don’t be shy. I think it’s good to make friends, don’t you?

As irritated as Lust was at finding herself here when she had important business to be taking care of, she couldn’t help but be amused by aspects of her unfortunate situation. There was something ironic about her, of all people, being powerless to escape a world in which the captives were encouraged to engage in lustful activities. It entertained her enough to be on her very best behaviour...for now.
Checking her reflection in the mirror in her apartment, Lust regarded the X-shaped mark on her cheek with disdain. When Arawn told her about it, she thought it might be a joke. After a week in Atollo, it was readily apparent that the mark was no joke. It seemed likely that he was telling the truth about the rest of it, too. She wanted to know how this mark worked. Was it like alchemy, where this was some sort of equivalent exchange? Or was it something else entirely? Whatever it was, she wouldn’t find answers by sitting around here. Nor would she get rid of that unsightly X on her face.
A few minutes later, she was greeted out in the streets of Muir by a handsome smiling young man.
“Looks like you haven’t been paying your homage to Arawn, miss! You should get on that, you know...it’s like you’ve got a target in your face inviting someone to have a bit of fun with you and a curse.”
“But however would I do that?” Lust asked with mock innocence.
“Well, you know...intercourse!” said the man cheerfully. “Just find a partner and you’ll be fine.”
Lust reached over and touched his cheek. “It’s so kind of you to help me. I wonder if you might help me just a little more...”
