It's not that The Corpse Bride is a bad film -- it's just that Burton (once again) squandered the talent he had at his disposal. Not outright bad like Charlie was at times, but it certainly fell on its face on more than a couple occasions. What I didn't get is whether he was trying to make it a musical or if the musical bits were just incidental. The songs suffered from the same problem that Charlie's did, in that they were too meandering and overwhelming to actually be enjoyable. Juxtaposed to Nightmare (not directed by Burton, just 'envisioned', and then he stole the credit for it), it just doesn't hold up nearly as well.
Due to my inaction I've also apparently missed 2046 in theatres. I think I should stab myself in the hand so I learn a lesson.
