Things I Liked:
- The Daft Punk soundtrack was awesome.
- It's real pretty, and 3D definitely worked well with it.
- Jeff Bridges is uniformly pretty awesome.
- The CG Bridges...kinda works? Sort of?
- The callbacks were - for the most part - fun.
- It sort of amused me that Encom was clearly meant to be Microsoft, yet everyone used Unix/Linux.
- Despite the movie being PG, the 2 main female leads in the movie inspired some decidedly less than PG thoughts.
Things I Didn't Like:
- That said, it'd have been nice if either of the girls fleshed out more - Quorra came off as insipid and far too clingy for the badass she is, and Jem was just generically creepy/evil.
- They brought back EVERYTHING from the old movie - the bikes I get, sure, but the goddamn solar barge? Really?
- While not as draggy as the first movie (which was, largely, a snoozefest unless they were in vehicles), it was strangely slow for moving as quickly as it did.
Verdict:
On the whole, the movie was sort of soulless - pretty, sure, but dead inside. If you don't see it in 3D you're missing the best part.
