New SUNN0))) & Boris is one of the best records of 2007, no doubt. I managed to pick up a triple vinyl, with an amazing 16 page colour booklet for $25 US, new. I'm so glad I bought it. It's been forever since I've purchased new records, mostly because I've been hunting classics, and a little because most everything isn't worth my time or money.

I also scored a BOSS OC-3 which I'd been searching for this entire trip for a bargain price at an instrument store in Brooklyn called "Main Drag" on Wythe St. The place was amazing, vintage guitars, amps, pedals, all for amazing prices, and unlike most instrument retailers, not run by assholes... if only I were rich.

We also frequented a flea market/thrift/collectibles store called "Vortex" on Montrose Ave, BK. It's the kind of place a collector could spend days in. Crammed aisles and floor to ceiling shelves full of records, books, toys, clothes, accessories and all kinds of bric-a-brac. We spent a few hours in there and for around $30 snagged a bunch of great stuff:

Books:
Malcom X auto-bio
Catcher in the Rye
Survivor (Chuck Palaniuk)
Dracula
100 years in solitude
PIMP (Iceburg Slim)
Soul on ice (Eldridge Cleaver)
Anne Franks diaries
If not now, when? (Primo Levi)

Odds:
An original Freddie Crueger Glove! (Still sealed in the 1984 package)
Two scarves for Talia and a set of 1940's style lace/leather gloves
Scrabble
Know Your Enemy (Manic Street Preachers)
The Harder They Come VHS
A nice carry bag
A belt for Talia
Bauhaus BBC Recordings cassette

I love a good list.

We picked up some presents for our Brothers, and a couple of "hot on the street" mix cd's for friends, all in all, NY has been good for in-expensive retail, and long walks.

Yesterday I managed to see mighty drone lords "Earth" perform for free at Amoeba records. Free. It was fantastic, everything was clean, they had tone for days, though it made me think how much better it would be to see them in a "club" environment with the lights dimmed and performing a long set. Amazing.

Dad just arrived in the country, and I plan to try and meet up with him somewhere on his journey. he's mostly touring the south to fulfill his country music/blues desires, but I think I might be able to catch him in Vegas.
