First off the bad news: I have lost my wallet! We went out on saturday evening to Kris' post-graduation party, and then to an event at an art-space called "Thunderdome"... it promised to be a fun night. We left the party, and on the way to the art-space, we pulled over so's I could withdraw some cash. I took out forty dollars, and as far as I can recall, and habit tells me, I put my wallet in my back pocket, and left it alone for the remainder of the evening. When I woke up in the morning, for whatever reason, I checked my pants for my wallet, and it was gone! I felt fucking sick. I contacted the bank, and the lady I spoke to was fucking hopeless. Basically, they have to send two new cards out to dads, and my pin number takes four weeks to arrive, only at a destination I provide them with inside the united states, or else they cannot send it. She also didn't understand my question relating to affiliate banks in the states, where I might be able to just walk in with ID and withdraw cash. She says only funds from my visa can be accessed through visa emergency funds, and my other option is that someone tranfers money through western union. This sucks. I'll call the police department tomorrow in the vague hope that someone may have handed it in, but I don't like my chances. I'll also call anz again, and email Sabina and suss out my options again.
Other than that, I haven't done too much while I've been here. It seems jobs should be pretty easy to find, I just think I might wait until I get to New york, where I'll want to settle for sure, and hopefully by then have all this card madness sorted out, or something. I might have some labour work lined up for cash monies this week, so that will help. Today we walked in the "Bay to Breakers", an annual charity-driven run/walk from the city to shore, kind of like the city to surf, but a billion times rowdier. Mostly the first wave is serious runners, and then the other 65, 000 people are just out to drink with floats, costumes and mobile bars/soundsystems. Everyone comes out for it, people have house parties, and it's (surprisingly) a generally pleasant atmostphere... not to whinge, but I'm sure I would have enjoyed it a little more if I had a wallet. None the less, I drank some, walked some, and took in as much as I could.
Kris and his wife Kristen have been amazingly hospitable, and I've been jacking a whole bunch of stuff from his itunes, playing his guitar a little (once), and just hanging out on the porch and reading. Hopefully tomorrow things will look up, and I'll have acces to my money, which should enable me to go into town and explore a little.
