Title: Your Eyes Open
Fandom: Alias
Pairing: Sark/Syd
Rating: G
Summary: Sark by Sydney's side.
Notes: It's a very short songfic, but the plot bunny wouldn't leave me alone. This is totally not on any timeline and there are no spoilers. Based on the song 'Your Eyes Open' by Keane.
For a moment your eyes open and you know
All the things I ever wanted you to know
You rest your hand on her knee and silently wonder why it looks so pale to you, so foreign. It’s the bad lighting, you tell yourself and let your thumb stroke her thigh softly.
You don’t know why you’re still here. It’s been over an hour and the others will be here to see her soon. It’s not safe, and yet you can’t bring yourself to get up from this blue, plastic chair and walk out that door. It’s dangerous, you know it. You can feel their approach. They’ll be here any minute, but still you sit and wait.
The machines in the room let off periodic beeps and whirrs and you cringe at the thought of her relying on them. You search her face for signs of life, but she’s asleep. For now. Her soft bangs frame her face and your fingers itch to brush them away, but you settle for stroking her thigh instead.
You try to recall how this all began but it all started and ended in a flash. Guns and fire and smoke and her. There she was, laying in the alley. You can still remember the look in her eyes as you bent over her. She shuddered as you touched her cheek, burning against your knuckles. With a final breath she uttered those words.
“Don’t leave me,” she whispered and you were already lifting her into your arms.
You should probably go. They’ll be here soon. It’s not safe.
Her finger twitches and you can’t stop yourself from reaching out to take her hand into your own. It’s small and feels like glass to the touch; smooth and cold. You entwine your fingers with hers and for a moment it all rushes away; the machines, the doctors, the others. All gone.
You instantly let go and push yourself away. It’s too real now. Too dangerous.
You finally get up from the chair and walk away. The others will be here soon, you can’t be seen.
You walk towards the door, your hand’s already on the knob. You turn to shut the door behind you and through the small window you see her looking back at you. She giving you that look you can’t bare to see anymore. Her eyes lock with yours and you linger longer than you should. Her eyes suddenly flutter closed and before she can open them again, you’ve already disappeared.
I don't know you, and I don't want to
Till the moment your eyes open and you know
