You ever had one of those dreams? One of those heart pounders, the ones that make you wake up and stare at the ceiling for a few moments to catch your breath. One of those dreams that make you feel so afraid that you're certain that it was real for a second or two?
These are not dreams. These are illusions, your worst nightmares from the creatures called the Crawlies - the politically correct term on both sides of the coin. They have many names, though - some refer to them as Sandmen, Faes, Nightshades and Nightcrawlers - it doesn't matter to them. Not as long as they get to give you a good scare.
Children, however, call them Boogeymen.
And they feed on your fears and happiness alike until there is nothing left.
No one knows where they come from. Some say that the Crawlies were once humans, humans that had been mistreated until they retaliated - or were taken by the Crawlies themselves and Turned. Others say that they originated from humans themselves, ripped out of their dreams and gaining a form.
Many have tried to capture them. All have failed, though there are still many groups out there to try and catch them. This is, as they have said, to save our world.
But in Their opinion?
They'll devour your world before you can save it.
Road: A Boogeyman, one of the oldest in history. She gives you your nightmares in full gusto, with an added twist of her own here and there. Her main form that she appears in is of a small, childlike girl with a sweet in her hands, though many have said that this is not her true form.
Tyki: Another Boogeyman, a recent addition. He tends to slowly give the dreamer a sense of contentment, of pleasure with sweet memories before hitting you hard with your insecurities. He tends to appear with his brother of sorts, Cyril.
Cyril: A Boogeyman who appeared with Tyki. This one tends to show you your desires and wishes in such detail that you can almost feel them when you awaken. He appears with Tyki, who helps add on the finishing touches.
Skinn: One of the most frightening Boogeymen to date. He is the one that gives you the screams, the nightmares almost as badly as his eldest sister does. You see your worst fears, your anger and your hatred, your vengeance in his feast before awakening. This one tends to appear on stormy nights, when there is lightening crackling in the sky.
Lulubell: A poisonous weaver, some call her. She is the one responsible for most desirable dreams, the lust-filled ones that slowly, slowly sap you away until you wake up, completely drained and remembering only sharp claws and cat-like eyes watching. She often appears in dreams as a black cat with golden eyes.
Jasdero and Devit: A pair similar to Tyki and Cyril's. They mostly appear in children's dreams, giving them pure and unadulterated terror in the form of monsters. Most of the time, they appear in a pair, though on occasion you seem them combined.
Wisely: The annoying one, as some call him, but nevertheless, he is terrifying; some say that he is as old as Road. However, he tends to feed you your fears one by one, all your insecurities and doubts while you, in the dream, feel his eyes on you. Watching. Feeding.
Adam: The eldest Boogeyman. He feeds on your despair and your lost love until you wake up crying in despair. Occasionally, he takes a leaf from the twin's book and throws a few monsters at you - possibly in the form of your beloved.
