Revolution & Kung Fu by Renée Tajima-Peña - Project Site - Where Great Art Starts - from United States Artists

One of the sadder parts of white focused media dialogue and history, is the way in which things like inter-POC movements and media disappear - a lot of folks look at stuff like blaxspoitation films and laugh at the heroes knowing martial arts, or at folks like Wu-Tang having a marital arts theme, but back in the day it was not uncommon to see cultural crossovers. Richard Aoki, for example, was a strong member of the Black Panthers.

It's really not hard to see how this kind of stuff happens- a lot of those martial arts stories and folk tales typically deal with fighting injustice and oppression- of course the message of self-empowerment is appealing to social justice groups.

Folks interested in supporting this project should consider dropping $5 or $10 towards it.
