From Lying in the Gutters:

My last couple of Doctor Who leaks were fairly solid - Neil Gaiman to write 2010 “Doctor Who” and Tom Baker returning to the series proper in an unnamed role. Both have been bubbling under ever since. The next one is not so tied down. It’s still rather up in the air. But it’s quite a possibility ( Read more... )

Patterson Joseph? Really???

He's a good actor, but in order of 'Who the Beeb likes best and who gets parts in Brit films'/has done a lot of stage work' (extra kudos when its with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and best chance is if they've also been to public school-i.e elite private schools) I'd have thought first choice would have been Chiwetel Ejiofor (who scores on all fronts), second Mark Lester, third Colin Salmon (currently doing 'Blakes Seven') fourth Dorian Harewood (not a fave of mine)fifth Lennie James (last seen in 'Jericho')...an outside chance it could be Kwame Kwei-Armah who has been lauded as an actor-turned playright and who the Beeb has pushed quite a lot.

Erm, and 'British Authority'approach to characters? What is that? My impression is that as over here the acting profession has a bit of snobbery favouring stage actors as the pinnacle, (hence so many people doing a turn with the RSC) then people who've done BBC Radio 4 plays (aargh! Martin Jarvis gets 70% of everything!)so that's who/how the Beeb casts for prestige projects.

Personally, Id love Idris Elba ('The Wire') or Adewale Akinbiyi-Agbabe (Mr Eko in 'Lost')but that might be pushing it :D:D

Lovely thought a Black Doctor. As long as it isnt Lenny Henry...
