interview with Charles Saunders.

He's one of the ground-breaking figures in black American SF&F. Inspired by genre literature written earlier in the century (literature which almost universally depicted Africans in a negative light), he decided to reshape the literature with his own contributions, most notably with his character Imaro (whom Saunders describes as the "antidote to Tarzan"). Saunders, born in Pennsylvania, has lived and worked for the last 30 years as a journalist in Nova Scotia, and has written several non-fiction works on the unique history of the black community there.
