I have tried to make an entry so many times, but they always turn out so jumbled... just rambling. But I have to type something. It will probably jump from place to place. and never actually arrive anywhere.
Lately I have been on a "punk kick" at work. It got me to thinking about some of the best punk albums, you know... albums every "punk" should have heard. Here they are... in no particular order.
DRI - Dealing with it. simple minded and full of teenage angst. full of thoughts that are not fully thought out. But it tries. The best of all their albums
Sex Pistols - Nevermind the Bullocks. High on Energy, low on intellect. The first, and most popular "glam" punk band.
Dead Kennedys - Frankenchrist. This is the album that made it alright for you to be a geek with no friends... Screw the "jocks", forget about MTV, and Anarchy... oh yeah... eat your veggies, soup is good food.
The Exploited - War Now! (and/or) Jesus is Dead. The Antithesis of the Dead Kennedys... Raw... True, in-your-face coup d'tat anarchy. Believe in nothing, and no future. in other words, a good dose of what young impressionable minds need.
Bad Brains - Bad Brains. Raggae fused with Punk Rock. Racial Harmony and it paved the way for all those ska-core bands. Just great music.
Circle Jerks - Wonderful. working-class punk. True american punk. Full of well placed anger. Be true to yourself, hate the system, and be nice to people.
Suicidal Tendencies - Suicidal Tendencies. withdrawn from society, colorblind, and rebellious (especially against parents). Alienation at its finest... and all I wanted was a Pepsi.
Like I said, an incomplete list... FAR from complete... Honorable Mention? Sure. The Minutemen, Angry Samoans, Misfits, Black Flag, MDC, The Ramones, GBH, Minor Threat, etc...
So, what else?
Too many thoughts in my mind and I can't seem to grasp onto any of them. too jumbled up and confusing. Highlights include...
Nature vs. Nurture - Can we control our ultimate destiny? Does it control us? or do we merely play our roles in a spiral we cannot escape?
Compromise vs. Sacrifice - can we live without either? is one better? is there a difference?
Love vs. love - seems like everyone wants to find it, but then questions it every moment while "in" it. Is it real? or is it just something we feel we need so desperately that we cling to anything in hopes that it is the truth?
Then there are the other random thoughts on Politics, religion, and a myriad of other subjects.
Of course there is more on my mind... But I'm done typing for now.
Sorry for the incoherent nature of this... I just needed to get this down on paper so I could clear my mind and focus on other things. :)
