Well, the Shockers run at a dodgeball championship is over. But we gave it our best shot. I knew right from the outset we really had a chance to win this thing. For a couple of reasons. 1) We functioned very well as a team. We did not clump together so it was harder to hit us, and we kept moving. We moved the balls around and took shots from different angles. Our passes were very well-timed and efficient. 2) Dan throws a dodgeball harder and more accurately than anyone alive. He was responsible for taking out 65% of the men we downed. And in relationship to any other player...the next highest was 33%. 3) We were the only team with a girl. This may not seem like an advantage to some of you, and to others I may sound sexist, but we found out that the other teams definately avoided throwing at Logan as she was not hit nearly as much as the rest of us. But that made up for her throwing. It was very unexpected when Dan and I would be up front, only to receive a ball to the back of our heads. Hmm...not out, but it definately lowered our guard. We played five games and won four. We really should have lost in the first game, but Dan is amazing...he's like a young Patches O'Houlihan! You really had to be there to believe it, but I will try and descibe it as accurately and descriptively as I can. I had just taken a shot off the leg, leaving Dan alone against four "Dominators" All six balls were on their side and Dan went into defensive mode. All four Dominators loaded up with a ball and advanced on poor Dan. They reared back and threw one right after the other trying to get Dan eventually. The first ball hit Dan on the shoulder...so you would assume he's out, but no. The ball bounces off and goes straight up. While that ball is in the air, Dan catches the next ball, catchces the first one as it comes down and knocks the last two away with the two he has in his hand. Wow, I haven't seen a better play made in any sport. Ever. So they lose two and we gain two because of the balls Dan caught, and we don't look back. The game is over within 3 minutes and we're advancing. We tore through competition, never losing more than two men in a game until we ran into a team of seniors from a frat. They had obviously watched us play the game before, because they all went for Dan and took him out of the mix early. Without our proud leader, we fell quickly. We lost that game long before Logan was knocked out to end the game. We fared well, but came up short in the end. The frat team we lost to wound up losing in the finals to a team that looked more suited to a chess match than a dodgeball game, but looks are apparently deceiving because they owned everyone they played. So that was the dodgeball tournament in a nutshell. No serious injuries, just a way to blow of steam midweek. More wonderful homecoming activities will be upcoming in the memoirs of dead_sexy.
