Ok so I can totally 100% relate to a need to get the fuck out of New York. Summer in New York can be hot & sticky & miserable, but it can also amazing. During the year you're all caught up with school & papers & bullshit. It's fucking cold and who wants to leave the apartment. But in summer you'll be working at the internship & then the rest of your time is FREE TIME in New York - to go on New York adventures. You can go to museums, galleries & all of New Yorks many amazing parks (Central Park, Bryant Park (behind the library), Battery Park). Take the ferry to Liberty Island & go to the crown of the Statue of Liberty. You should definitely find out about stuff that goes on in Bryant Park, when I was working at the Library there were performances on Wednesdays (I think) in the afternoons, and they show a film every Monday night. Plus they have all kinds of exhibits and lectures there. Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, eat pizza in Brooklyn. Take the train to Coney Island, a beach & an amusement park in one place, can life get better than that? Greenwich Village & Saint Marks (East Village) is home to a wealth of awesome record stores. They are often hidden underground, in cavernous basements, even just to go check them out, experience the city that you forget you live in.
And when the summer seems treacherous & unending I bet the Ganga Fairy flies in to rescue you. (I just hope she makes it in time because she's got so much more school before her summer starts.) But I happen to know she's looking forward to beach blunts, lounging by her parents swimming pool & other fun summertime activities. Oh and there's always the "18 miles of books" at the Strand!
