amsterdam update

Meet and greet with other exchange students on first day= catered event with all you can drink wine and beer and lots of delicious cheese. free! free! free! smashed at four in the afternoon and did not stop till passing out at 3 am.

I assumed that res was like ours in that every room on a floor was a double room except one or two. Negative. There is only one double room per floor so me and Kirsten's room is automatically the party room every night. People just show up at all times in the day to see if something's going on. It looks like a foreign version of the 476 Cumberland. Except Heineken is everywhere. Our living room is massive so it works for parties.

We went to the biggest club in Amsterdam with all the exchange kids and all the Vrije (my school) dutch frosh kids.It was a scene out of a movie. Huge warehouse in a back alley with a billion spotlights in a billion different colours, everyone bumpin and grindin to the worst house techno bullshit. the patio looked out onto the canal so it was beautiful. Me the next morning: “at least they played sexy back.” So you can only imagine how bad the music was.

We went to go watch a football game at an irish pub on the second night(cause I havent gotten enough of the irish pub scene in ottawa) It was like a Sens playoff game. Packed to the brim and the Netherlands weren’t even playing. They take their football seriously here.

I payed 6 euros for a vodka at the bar. Lame. But it was prob between a double and triple shot and super delicious

Everyone here is so impressed by the 60 of vodka I brought. Yay duty free.

Playing drinking games with foreign ppls is so funny.

I had to run off two trams in a row cause we got asked for tickets which we did not have cause we are rebels like that. We also did not know where the bar was. So I got a walking tour of Amsterdam in stilettos.

All the res rooms have connecting balconies from their back door. So everyone just parties and meets there when they wanna hang out. Fuck north american suicide windows!

I couldn’t have asked for a better roommate while here. Kirsten and I were meant for each other.

We have been here four days and everyday is the same thing. Wake up at 1 or 2, do pretty much nothing cause we are hungover all day, get ready, start drinking at 8, pass out at 4. Repeat. Lets see how long before we burn out. I got sick on the plane so im not getting better any time soon due to my lifestyle.

Concerts Im going to with Dean, my Australian friend, who is the only person here who likes good music thus far: modest mouse, bloc party, coheed and cambria, the arcade fire, the national, the Decembrists, the tragically hip, the cliks, jose gonzalez.

observations ive made here: europeans are fucking racist. seriously. or maybe canadians are just overly politically correct about everything. but ive heard my far share of comments of race-bashing in one way or another. emily, kirsten and i alays feel so awkward and dont know what to say. its so weird cause its in public with no shame. i feel like ppls would get their asses kicked if it happened in canada. also, they have no respect for the environment. someone through an empty cigarette pack on the ground when there was a trash can literally right beside them. they said that it was someones job to clean up the streets. so ridiculous.

Today Im finally spending the whole day downtown shopping, smoking and enjoying life. Tonight: red light district!
