Some things Krauser's just not very good at.
Realizing how to return to the person he was; realizing how much of that he's lost; forgetting; letting go of grudges; feeling the range he used to--he lets the plaga do a lot of that, now--and other little bits and pieces of human interaction.
But when it comes down to it, he's good at the things other people needed him for: not giving in, being one of the best, and in some categories, truly being one of the elite.
Krauser's got the knife in hand, quietly polishing it at the end of a long series of katas and practice maneuvers. (Some of the sequences he made up himself. They're still being taught on his home world.) It's one of the few times he lets the good memories stay, and he's quiet and calm as he traces the dragon symbol engraved into the blade.
And, as always at these times, quite unusually approachable.
