Super Furry Animals' Gruff Rhys writes a real nice exposé of the seedy underbelly of Dead Meadow in the December 2006 Mojo Magazine. Dead Meadow recently re-released their first album and Gruff has this to say about that:
"The Debut album by Dead Meadow is one of the deepest, most psychedelic records I have ever heard. According to our own Huw 'Bunf' Bunford, Dead Meadow are the greatest band in the world, and all of Super Furry Animals love them." When Gruff first heard the record back in 1999, he thought "It sounded so aged and world weary, so heavy and psychedelic, that I imagined the band to be 40-year-old bikers living in a remote village on top of a misty mountain, possibly on heroin. This image was confirmed when I tracked down their second album, Howls From the Hills, which had a photograph of a goat standing in front of a country shack."
"Whenever Super Furry Animals played with them we would stand at the side of the stage and headbang along before it was our turn to go on."
"Dead Meadow are currently working on a new record, and as a live band they've just got better and better."
