Still here

Got take out from a small local place last night to help keep it stay in business. My buddy used to work there, and he is friends with the owners. It would be sad to have this place go out of business due solely to COVID. We are going to try to get takeout/curb service 1-2 times per week from smaller businesses despite the costs.

Still working at work. Son still in daycare. I am pretty much the only person in my physical office going in, and this is essentially isolation. Daycare is a familiar place for my son without much contact to people outside of the daycare. He needs structure, and we need to work if there is going to be a recession. I would probably be better if he was home, but he has already been exposed to all the people there. The daycare needs people to go there to stay in business. There is going to be no serious bailout for the small businesses and individual workers that may lose their jobs. The daycare workers already had their hours cut. They have combined classrooms because not many kids are there. My son is definitely getting more one-on-one time and comes home exhausted. We wash our hands going in and going out. He eats better there and is more picky at home. He is getting so smart, and I think he is learning a lot both academically and socially.

My parents and in-laws are not working in an office. My BIL is working in a hospital's COVID department. My other neighbor is working in a different hospital's drive-up testing COVID department. From seeing what is going on in Europe and the poor response/inaction by the US, it is clear that things are going to get worse before getting better. I hope the one takeaway from this crisis is power of community. Hopefully people help each other. I hope some self-centered-ness is watered down. I hope people look at socialism as a safety net that cannot be put in place after the fall, like it is here. I doubt this will happen, but this is my hope.

update, covid
