Sitting up late with little to do, deeply immersed in a THC induced intoxication, and enjoying some intelligent company, time drifted on into the small hours of the morning, the TV set waffling on in the background not being noticed much. Slowly, with all the subtlety of an unwelcome syringe in a nightclub bathroom, the sound of Gods Word According To Pastor Brain Tamaki was seeping into our living room.
Congratulations, your house is now HIV positive.
I have never taken such idiocy seriously enough to pay any real attention before, but I noticed something this time... a couple of things actually:
1) his live audience is stupidly large. And demographically uneducated I might add... the bulk of said congregation being of the illiterate barely-anglophonic recently-immigrated wide-eyed 75-IQ slant.
2) Those of his audience that can write, do. I mean *write*. They scratch away on notepads taking down every word verbatim with as much nerve-wrung fervour as the preacher himself, as if they were on a god-granted mission to convert the paper, or perhaps thier own fingers, to the way of god.
3) He wants more. Politics? It could happen..... Winston Peters proved that all that's required for a career in politics is to corner a target demographic of wide-eyed naive trusting people who still somehow believe that all men who wear hideously expensive suits are trustworthy and honest. I have personally had members of the Grey market affirm to me that "Mister Peters" (they always use 'Mister') does NOT "dodge questions", he simply "doesn't pander to the appetites of the media", so I suppose "hatemonger" could feasably become "traditionalist" in the mouths of like-minds.
So what?
So some frightened biblethumper wants to get into power and shit. We've seen it before, look at the bible belt in america, hell, those fuckstains made a frightened biblethumper the boss. A stupid one too. Fucks sake, everything Adolf Hitler ever did was in direct accordance with the bible, if taken at face value. But here's what worries me:
On this fateful broadcast he draws reference to the story of the march around the walls of Jericho and the shout that crumbled them....... In the same breath he talks about how him and his cohort of followers are going to march across auckland harbour bridge in a drove of roughly 8000...
Now I know he thinks that it really was the hand of god himself that toppled the walls of Jericho, while any physicist worth his salt knows EXACTLY why armed forces practise the use of the "fall out" command while marching...
The (unauthorised) event in any case will serve to piss off the best part of an entire central city comprised mostly of already over-stressed road-raging gentleman-killer types, the bridge itself will likely not stand the sheer weight, let alone that weight marching in unison. This announcement hot on the heels of The Good Pastor telling his congregation in no kind of riddle that "gods church is an army, an army which is now poised to take the power back in this country and get back to what's right".
Now far be it from me to draw comparisons, but the Nazi party got into power in Germany through the hold of 3 parliamentary seats under MMP and the resultant coalition government that emerged. Adolf Hitler shared the exact same vision as Tamaki, only Hitlers vision had far less Jewish DNA circulating through society by the end of it. Had it not been for Chamberlain dignitarily telling Hitler that he could take his policy of appeasement and shove it up his arse, he would have controlled europe, then russia, then england, then the commonwealth (which at the time was still the largest empire the world had ever known), leaving only America to conquer, and with every border controlled by commonwealth nations.... yeah..
So is it just me, or should I just go back to pretending this terrified upstart doesnt exist?
