And after years of waiting, it's now finally been announced that Starbucks will at last come to the Netherlands! Yes, I am aware of the facts that there have been two stores open at Amsterdam Airport for quite a while now, but you'd also have to agree that the Dutch don't really have a reason to ever be at the airport, other than leaving the country; which most of us don't do too often.
Yesterday morning, a colleague of mine had send me the press release announcing the cooperation between Starbucks and my company, Servex, to open three stores in the next 18 months, with the possibility of opening even more after these three. The first has been announced to open at Amsterdam Central Station, which I pass through a few times a week on my way to university. Combined with my 60 per cent discount on all non-alcoholic beverages and 'decent' food within the entire company, I suppose I'll be in college with a nice Starbucks drink as soon as they open up the first store.
The other two are announced for Utrecht Central Station and Leiden Central Station. (They will be restyling the latter as a try-out for the "world stations" the railways are planning to morph the bigger stations in the country into; including Starbucks, fashion stores and other luxury stores.)
I'm so excited, and I suppose people kind of know me, there's been four persons to notify me of this fact individually. And I have told my manager that I'd file a transfer request to Starbucks if they'd pay me the same as my current job pays me. ;-)
