Today had most certainly not gone well. An anomaly had appeared inside a youth centre and had unleashed a pod (herd? Gaggle?) of Goyocephales. They weren't very big, nor were they carnivorous. However, there were nearly two dozen of them, and the little fuckers were quick. Not to mention the fact that it was the middle of the week and there were plenty of civilian witnesses. And it was Captain Becker's third day on the bloody job. He was trying to get an actual perimetre set up around the anomaly, but it wasn't exactly easy to do given that there were still civilians in the building and the buggering creatures scattered like roaches throughout the building.

When the silver Hilux belonging to the non-security half of the response team pulled up, the men that'd been on longest began muttering hasty bets through the comms and put considerable thought into staying far out of the way of the Public Relations manager that came storming out. They knew better than to mess with the Ms. Lewis in a temper. They were trained soldiers, but that woman could walk through a tornado and come out on the other side like it was a damn gentle breeze, not a hair out of place, most certainly not a woman to be trifled with. So as she stormed up the stairs of the youth centre like a well-dressed freight train, they all made sure to maintain minimum safe distance.

"Christ on a bloody cracker, it's my day off!" she snapped. "This is the last time I ever leave you lot without a sodding babysitter! Cutter! Temple! Get in here now, get that damn anomaly shut before anything else bigger comes through it. Finn, Kermit, stay with them, I won't have my boffins getting eaten," she ordered in that very unique tone of voice which said she expected to be obeyed now, and one should only argue with her if they didn't wish to live past today.

Frowning at the sight of the sleek woman giving orders to his men, Becker turned on heel and strode over to her. "Ms. Lewis-" he began firmly, but he found himself cut off before he could say anything else.

Jenny spun on him and jabbed him in the armoured chest with one red manicured fingernail, glaring up at him as if he wasn't taller, heavier, and stronger than she was. "No! Captain, you lost control of this situation a long time ago. As of right now, this has become a public relations situation, which means that I'm in charge and you will do as I say." She snatched an earpiece from one of the soldiers, switched it on, and placed it in her ear without ever missing a word. "I want this contained and yesterday. Every civilian cleared out, and every entrance and exit shut up tight, understood? Nobody steps foot or says a word outside of the perimetre without my say-so. Now I suggest you lot do you bloody jobs properly whilst I clean up this clusterfuck of a mess you've managed to make, and if you don't, I'll make sure that we get a Head of Security who can!"

With that, she turned on heel and strode towards the door, her heels clicking out a sharp staccato on the concrete, leaving Becker standing there, a muscle working in his jaw, almost apoplectic.

As they hurried to set up the equipment and lock the anomaly, Finn asked Cutter in an undertone that Becker couldn't hear, "Is it wrong that I found that extraordinarily hot, sir?"

"Nope," Cutter replied just as quietly. "I do, too." He decided not to mention that when Jenny got worked up like that, she also tended to get quite turned on afterwards, all that anger bleeding off into sexual tension or that he would bet every penny in his wallet that she would end up shagging him into the mattress before the day was out.

"Oh, good, it's not just me then," Connor muttered under his breath as he fiddled with his laptop.

"Oh, shut up," Becker snarled as he strode past them.

Cutter watched the slick new captain storm off in a huff, muttering under his breath about civilians meddling in military operations, and he shook his head with a smirk on his face. Becker would do well to learn that he wasn't in charge of any urban anomaly, not really, and he had best get used to Jenny's temper. She was protective of the team in her own way, and she didn't know Becker well enough to trust him yet. That would come in time. Until then, though, she would snap and bristle and generally make life unpleasant for the captain.

The boy would learn. Eventually.
