Internship

Today was the second day of the conference. I got to go to one of the best presentations by far. It was an interactive workshop called “The Big Picture.” It was basically a simulation of real life project management. There was a small set of customers, workers, managers, a project manager, and even a financial services department. These different groups had to interact to meet customer demands by following a strict set of guidelines (mostly financial related, like having certain penalties for going over time, or buying decided on supplies, etc..) It went much beyond generic team building activities. The actual activity consisted of replicating a Picasso painting, but there were several guidelines in place such that a team of workers had to take a small part of the puzzle and expand it to a much larger sheet. And these larger sheets would be placed together to form “the big picture”. But none of the teams could directly interact with each other. And paint had to be created and the same colors used throughout (but again the teams couldn’t interact directly) and then we dealt with issues like poor guidance from managers, lack of supplies and materials, etc. It was fun.
