Today I processed a reenlistment for an Hospital Corpsman that motivated me beyond belief. This particular Corpsman in an E-4 and has only been in the military for a short few years. Hey joined the Navy after 9-11 as National Call to Service. This is a program in the to help build deploying forces, giving them a 3 year enlistment with the option of re-enlisting on active duty at the end of the three years or to continue on to the reserves. Well in this Corpsman's case he did deploy with the Marines to Iraq. When he arrived back in the US almost one year ago he was a changed man. A man that was broken and almost unrecognizable by his to those who knew him prior to his life changing deployment. His motivation and will was unchanging for the entire year of intense physical therapy and endless surgeries. The fact that his right leg and first two fingers on his right had had to be amputated after his tragic experience with an IED in Iraq didn't slow him one bit. What's more impressive about this young hero is that he still will not give. He can RUN a Physical Rediness Test better than some who have not injuries at all and have a smile on his face the entire time he is doing it. What's more not only does he want to stay in the military he refused to re-enlist for orders to a desk job he would only take orders back to Marine Division so "I can continue the commitment to my Marines". I declare this day National Devil Doc Day, in honor of HM3 Jacobs!
