The new Smashing Pumpkins song is kind of crummy. I guess that's what happens when you try to resurrect your band after a lacklustre solo career and new band. So now we get Billy Corgan plus the drummer as the new Smashing Pumpkins, with a generic metaly sound overpowering Corgan's vocals. Blech.
We leave to Montreal on Wednesday, if I haven't mentioned it. We are driving this time, nearly twelve hundred miles. We are planning on leaving about nine pm or so and I'll try to eat up the majority of it while the baby snoozes. The key to long distance driving, especially at night, is keeping the mind active. Surfing for music stations on the radio doesn't sound very appealing, and even music I like gets dulling to the mind after a time. I like listening to Coast to Coast AM, but surfing for it every time it goes out sounds frustrating, and I believe most stations that carry it are AM (hence the name of the show) and my car gets horrible AM reception. It occurred to me that audiobooks would be a good idea, so we plan on borrowing a couple from a friend of Amanda's. I've never listened to an audiobook before, but as long as it has a decent story I figure it will be just the thing to focus my attention over the long night drive.
I went to the eye doctor today, and he said something I suspected since I first got this new prescription. My eyes are really bad, especially my left, and the last doctor didn't do a very good job at pegging it. I can't get contacts right now, because I had intended to try them, because my eyes need to build up strength. He said that the astygmatism in my left eye I was born with, so my left eye never developed properly to begin with. I guess it says something that all the eye tests I had in the early years of school never said I needed glasses. The doctor said that I'll go from 20/50 right now to about 20/25 with the new glasses. I'm very excited to be getting some glasses that will allow me to see the way I should. I should have went back to the doctor after the last examination I had, but I let laziness dictate my complacency in the matter. I am also getting a much nicer pair of glasses this time.
Later!
