The Freewheelin' P. Rogue.

I was watching a newscast the other day, and the anchor talked about a "celebration" of the September the Eleventh attacks. I just don't think "celebration" was the correct word she was looking for.

I have been on a Bob Dylan kick the last few days. I just bought two new early albums of his. I don't remember what I said about the show Amanda and I saw at the local ballpark, but we were both less than impressed with his performance. It was nearly impossible to understand him. At the time I only owned four albums, of his now thirty-one studio album, so was (and am still) largely unfamiliar with his huge repertoire. I found even the songs I sort of recognized were "rocked-up" to such a degree they were only barely recognizable to me. But even Dylan's early recordings carry such a weight, there is just something about him that is uniquely American. He provides a synthesis of all sorts of influences, mainly blues and folk, and spins them into something his own. It is Amazing he is still recording critically acclaimed albums over forty years since his first recordings. I want to purchase even more of his back catalogue, but am using restraint as that has to be low on my list of things needing money to be spent upon.

Tonight was the first Colts' game of the season. Even though they came through with a win, it was a thoroughly unimpressive win. This game was the first time Peyton Manning has played against his little brother, Eli, whom is entering his third NFL Season. It is the first time in NFL History two brothers have faced off as starting quarterbacks on opposing teams. Eli Manning has grown a lot since his first year. Indianapolis gave lie to their claims they would be able to replace Edgerrin James, their star running back who absconded to the Arizona Cardinals, presumably for more money. The Colts had no rushing game to speak of, and only won because the Giants' defense missed three easy interceptions hurled by Peyton, and the offense had several sloppy penalties in key situations. For Indianapolis to have a good season and a shot at the Superbowl, they really need to develop the running game. Also New York's offensive line nuetralized the Colts' defensive line's pass rushing ability all day, which is the cornerstone of the Indianapolis defense. I am happy they won, but do not feel they deserved it. Next week they have a major (for this early in the season) divisional game against the Jaguars who were impressive in their win over the Cowboys today.

We are now just one day from my wife being thirty-eight weeks pregnant. The doctor said she did not believe she would go into labor early, and we are thinking she might be as much as a week or so late. That would put the birth more around the very beginning of October. There have still been no major comblications, the only thing Amanda has is some swelling in her hands and feet. She is still working. I have 72 hours of vacation horded by taking virtually no time off all year, so will be able to stay home around two weeks and an half. We have most of the essentials for the arrival of the Littlest Rogue. She is going to be one rotten little girl, I have no doubt. I think my parents are going to spoil her horribly. I am still not sure about how to deal with the issue of religion when it comes to my mom though. I know that I am going to have to deal with it eventually. Bleh.

Holden mentioned my daughter rebelling by wearing a "Cock Rocks!" t-shirt or something. I think if my daughter really wants to offend her poor old Daddy she'll start wearing a crystal around her neck, reading tarot, talking about the wonders of homeopathic "medicine", and about how insightful and amazing Sylvia Browne is. Then she'll start praying to some non-existant being or another, and its all downhill from there, G. When that non-existant being starts talking back, that's when you have to worry.
