My friend who was my lovely (and excruciatingly pregnant) wife's friend from her former place of employment is no longer working for my company. Apparently there was some sort of disagreement between him and the boss of all of the bakers in the franchise, and rather than eat humble pie he chose to walk out. I do not consider it unmanly to admit that I would have eaten that humble pie, no problem. For she is the boss, and I am a loyal soldier as far as that goes. I do not presume to tell her how to do her job, and respect her authority to tell me exactly how to do mine. Jump? How high, exactly, is the specification? To do otherwise goes counter to the philosophy of the Professional Rogue.
I am hoping he and his significant other will be able to attend the
Southern Brewers' Festival next Saturday. I am very excited to have the opportunity to try so many different local brewers' wares. I plan on purchasing a couple of nice cigars and having a grand old time. I am hoping, though, either the former co-worker will be there, or just to run into others I may know. Sometimes even I like social events not at my home, I guess.
We are getting into the home stretch of the pregnancy. I am getting more and more excited about the impending birth of my little girl, Molly Morgan. Friday after next will be Amanda's thirty-sixth week visit do the doctor, when she will be considered "term." Her due date isn't until between the twenty-sixth and twenty-ninth of next month, and she believes she will deliver very close to that.
I did decide to get my Xbox repaired, the allure of finishing Half-Life 2 and playing through Metal Gear Solid 2 was just too great. I still also really want Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and Star Wars: Republic Commando. I also wonder if I would enjoy any of those Tom Clancy-licensed squad-based shooters.
There are several albums I want to buy, two of them surprise releases. There is a new Slayer album getting good reviews. I have never been an huge Slayer fan, but I respect their uncompromising sound. Slayer is the last of the thrash-metal icons to never give in to the pressure to temper their hyper-aggressive sound. The new album got a good review in Blender, which has me wanting it now. I have tended to find a lot of the past Slayer too repetitive. Also I just learned of a new THE MARS VOLTA release that I had no idea of. I have talked before about how amazing I find their last release, Frances the Mute, to be, so I will be powerless to stop myself from picking up that one. Also on the hard rock/metal front, I have learned of a new album from the amazing young metal act LAMB OF GOD. Lamb of God is a great band, considering most of the whiny crap that passes for metal nowadays. Actually there are others, too, like The Haunted, Mastodon, and Meshuggah who are fairly new hardcore metal acts. After all that metal, you might be surprised at the other album out soon that I want. It is the soundtrack to the Outkast musical IDLEWILD. The movie is supposed to be like a long, disjointed music video, but thier music is incredible. Outkast, though, has grown further apart. Big Boi and Andre 3000, the duo known as Outkast, are barely in each other's songs from what I read. It is a shame, because they are a perfect "odd couple" group. Andre 3000 is the wildly eccentric, creative YIN, while Big Boi is the more conventional, earthy YANG.
Later!
