[as the discussion was going on, the temperature in the very Jeep-like Explorer wass slowly rising, oddly contrasting the overcast weather outside. it looks as though a storm may be brewing.]
[aside from stacks of pamphlets touting the wonders of the park, rummaging in the trunk will reveal a number of potentially useful items, including a pair of large, green and yellow googles, a black flashlight, and a grey case containing three flares and a small fire extinguisher.]
[Wiping the sweat off his face, he opens the trunk and extracts the objects. He looks at one of the pamphlets and then leaves the stack alone, but takes the goggles, flashlight, case and fire extinguisher. He's not sure he'll be putting out any fires, but you never knew if something heavy and solid filled with potentially explosive material would be useful.]
[Zechs leaves the car, carefully latching on the safety and holstering his main pistol. While it was getting warm in the Explorer - sunlight, perhaps? - it's humid outside. Definitely going to storm sooner or later.]
[Soft] Under better circumstances, I could more reliably give your self an estimate for our chances.
[Very quietly] The community might prevent any means for us to leave the island.
[His ears strain for sounds of moment around them, but Zechs' training is wrong for this situation. He's used to filtering out animal noise, to try to pick out humans moving in the underbrush - not the other way around. He grabs the bulky fire extinguisher. The Noah needs free hands. For a moment, though, squeezes his lover's for reassurance.]
[Quiet] I know, dear heart. [Slight smile] Do not think I am so vulnerable here. Remember my skills, my reflexes - my own training. Together, I know we may manage anything.
[Nodding towards the car, expecting them to exit at any moment] I am more concerned for the others, especially Wright.
[Tyki's not used to stealth in general. He lets a few teases free, lets them roam around the area. They should be able to alert him if something's coming, but surely something so large wouldn't be able to sneak up on them!]
I know. [Gives Zechs' arm a squeeze] I'm not so worried about you. I know you can take care of yourself against most things. Nevertheless, I won't let you get eaten.
[He glances towards the car.] [More flippantly:] I won't let anything happen to them, either.
[gets out of the car, using his hand as a visor as he examines the sky. it's overcast, but it's bright, and the moisture in the air combined with the warm temperature is giving way to some agonizing humidity. wiping his brow, he stays close to the car and keeps an eye out for anything that might be moving as he heads toward the back]
It's too bad the car's electronic. It'd probably be a lot safer, to... er... [pauses when he comes across Zechs and Tyki, who look like they might be having some kind of moment, and backs up a little, looking away] Sorry.
[Tyki is casual and doesn't help or hinder Zechs from moving away. He nods and holds out the case of flares towards Phoenix] Want to carry something? I found some stuff in the trunk, though I don't know how useful any of it will be.
Since I'm the best armed, I want to have my hands free while we move.

[stepping out of the car, after thoroughly searching the rest of the seat pockets and the glove compartment for anything else of use and finding nothing. he pauses to study the sky, though.]
I wouldn't be surprised. Tropics get an awful lot, right? [for some reason, he doesn't sound too put out; he almost misses seeing rain.]
I WILL HELP ... AS MUCH AS I CAN. STUPID WORK.thricedeadwindJune 10 2009, 12:10:57 UTC
[Nodding, but scowls just slightly] Indeed. Hence a greater desire for shelter - rain will impede not only our movement, but our visibility.
[He wishes there was a D-ring that he could clip some of this stuff onto his belt, or something. About as useful as wishing there was a backpack, one supposes]
We should follow the track should there be rain, or make our selves with haste onto the road Tyki had seen. I do not anticipate having to maneuver quickly in deep mud will be an enjoyable task.
[watches the sky for a few moments longer before turning back, cocking an eyebrow at Tyki]
[obviously, he's not nearly as excited]
You don't think we should stay in the car until it passes? I mean... The road would still be muddy, but there's a lot less visibility in the rain. We'd be like sitting ducks.
[Pauses to consider this] But we have no idea how long the rain would last, or even if it's going to rain. We might find more secure shelter long before, if we follow the road.
[still apprehensive, he glances at the fence not too far away; he has no idea what's on the other side of it, and with the power seemingly out, there's no telling whether or not it's still on the other side; for all they know, it could have already spotted them...]
[shaking his head, he fishes out the pamphlet he'd grabbed before leaving the car, opening it a little clumsily (it was kind of hard to do when one had was holding the flare case) and glancing over it]
I don't know... Unless they're unmarked, it looks like the only other shelter might be the visitor's center, but it's on the opposite side of where we want to be. And if the movie's to be believed... [pause; he doesn't really want to think about that] ...Well, we don't want to go there.

We'll manage. Even if we can't leave the island for a while, we'll find a way to be safe.
[He looks at Zechs, solemn but determined] I won't let anything happen to you.

[After a moment, steps away from Tyki, waiting long enough so that it didn't seem as if they were 'caught' doing something.]
[Calm] Indeed, you are correct. Were the car independently powered, we may seek shelter at a faster rate, or more preferably, a means off this island.
As we have not such means, we should move as quickly as possible.

[sighing, he closes the case and watches the sky again; was it just his imagination or was it getting darker?]
Do you think it's going to rain?

We should definitely follow the track. Less chance of encountering impassable barriers and hungry beasties.
[He beams at the others, more excited than apprehensive] The road I saw was that way. Let's go!
[And he starts off down the track]
