A mysterious figure claimed the hearts and minds of Soul Society less than five weeks after its arrival.
It had started one morning in the quiet moments right before the sun rises. A boy not more than seven years old had gone outside to prepare for morning chores when he caught sight of a lump on the roof. He called out to it. Maybe it was another group of cats or something similar. It didn't move. Hmph. He had turned to get back to work when the sun broke over the horizon. The lump moved.
It was a man. A giant. He stood with arms crossed, feet firmly planted on the thatch, and a cape of flame flowed in the light breeze.
Neither boy nor giant made a sound. The figure turned his head to him and grinned and within the blink of an eye, he was gone.
He appeared in various places after that. Sometimes he was seen in the slums of Soul Society and there were those who claimed they had even seen him at the Kuchiki estate. How could he even get past the guards? He had to be a giant. There was no other explanation. But in every story, there was a similar thread. He never looked back. He stood forward, facing the sun, and if one got close enough, they could see the grin on his face. Almost like he was challenging the day to bring on something he couldn't handle if it even had the guts to do it.
A strange thing happened after that. People who had lost it all began to hold their heads up higher. Boys and girls posed in the middle of the street. The giant pulled the population from above to something greater.
All it took was a man looking forward so he could catch up to those he left behind.
