There was something about Obi that comforted him. Maybe the way he laughed, or how he carried himself. He smoked the same cigars, took the same tone with him when he did something wrong. Sometimes Tony wished he could express to Obi what he meant to him. At this point, he was his father. He was closer than he ever was to his real father. This was the man that checked his closet for monsters, taught him how to change the hot rod's oil; It was Obi that took care of him, that lectured and punished, laughed and cried with, that rubbed his back and brought him water when he got his first, miserable hang over.
It was Obi that squeezed his shoulder at his father's funeral, smiled and said, 'It'll be okay, Tony. I'm here for you, you'll be just fine.' No one else had the courage to speak to him.
"Tony, you really gotta focus here," he started and snapped Tony out of his daze. The playboy rolled his eyes, "I know, I know, go there, present, cut a deal, come back. You act like I haven't done this before."
"No," he said with the patience of a parent with a child, "No, I want you to realize this could get us in good. We haven't been selling new and we can't rely on the old."
"The Jericho will blow their minds-- I will blow their minds, Obi, don't you worry your pretty bald head."
"You'll do it right?"
"Pinky swear."
"You'll do it sober?"
"I'll be coherent."
"Tony."
"Alright, alright. Give me another slice, I have a date," he waggled his brows as Obidiah pushed the box toward him. He grabbed the second to last slice and lifted with a groan of appreciation.
"Don't stay out too late, remember your flight. Day after tomorrow."
"Yes, dad," he muttered around his bite and Obidiah just chuckled, cleaning up as Tony walked away. When he was no longer in sight, the smile dropped and he tossed the box into the trash with some subtle, malicious contempt.
He'd wire the money to that raghead tonight, call him to make sure he got it. One more day and Tony Stark was out of his life for good. 'Bout damn time.
