There is an image of yourself which you have neglected. This image exists in you, and included in this image is what you see of other people. You can be many things, but that all starts with your image. You were convinced that this image was evil, simply because you were told it was. But nothing is evil in and of itself. So the "evil" which you experienced is based on this image you've created. It isn't like you directly experienced evil, but instead you experience things you don't like and call these things evil because you've been trained to.
Back to the image stuff. The reason you are having such a hard time changing, is because you let go of your image. Instead of willfully maintaining the composure of yourself, you released control/responsibility allowing your ego to become chaotic.
But now you must rebuild this image of yourself. You were created in the perfect image of God, but without knowledge of good and evil. When you obtained this knowledge as a limited being confined to a limited perspective and understanding, you were easily deceived about who mattered in terms of good and evil. you are not capable of understanding "good and evil." But you can understand destruction and creation, severity and mercy. You should not judge these as evil or good, because good and evil seem situational.
So, in rebuilding this image, there should be one model for you to follow, and that's love. Not mercy, but love. Make for yourself and everyone else a loving image. Love is universal. Any action can be out of love. Love your image, and your image will love others.
