I know I've kind of popped on here all of a sudden out of nowhere, but I've watched all seasons of the show and am on the last book (audiobook) and so I feel kind of "full to the brim" of Dexter right now and needing to talk about it with people. This post is intended for people who have both watched the show AND read the books...
1) LaGuerta biting the big one at the end of Book 1... better or worse than the show? I say worse.
2) Debra being involved romantically with the Ice Truck Killler (who doesn't even get a cool name in the book) better or worse? I say better.
3) The dark passenger being a child of an ancient evil god. Totall worse, I don't even need you to vote, it's that obviously stupid.
4) Cody and Astor being budding psychopaths. Not necessary, not realistic, distracting from the plot. Agree or disagree.
5) Deb knowing from the end of book 1 that Dexter is a killer... I think this works in the books, not sure they could have pulled it off for this many seasons in the show.
6) Brian is still alive in the books... I wonder where that is going?
7) Debra is pregnant in the books (I'm just at the beginning of the last book--don't give me too many spoilers!)
8) In the books, despite being a "blood spatter analyst" Dexter constantly refers to blood as "awful, terrible, grotesque, etc." like he can't abide even seeing it. Yet he's a killer who kills with a KNIFE. I think this is a little inconsistent.
