Sign-up news!

Hey everyone! We've had some questions over the years asking us if we would consider allowing authors and artists to sign up together in order to work as a team from the start. Well, this year we've decided to give it a go!

Now, don't worry! If you don't have a partner to sign up with or would rather do the traditional bang format, we are definitely still doing that too. We are just adding more options.

How do team sign-ups work?
When sign-ups open, there will be several different sign-up forms. One will be for authors working independently, one will be for artists working independently, and one sign-up will be for teams. The team sign-up form will require the information for both the author and artist who will be working together.

What are the advantages of signing up as a team?
By signing up together, both the author and the artist will be able to work together toward their final products. You'll have months to bounce ideas off of each other and decide how best to fulfill your part. This option also works exceptionally well if you want to make or receive a podfic, because both parties can time their work to allow for the recording.

How do I find an author or artist to work with?
That's on you. You can talk to your friends, ask around Tumblr, search in communities, or look anywhere else you can think of. The only thing is that if you do a team option we won't be matching you up. We're not going to post a "find a partner" page or anything like that. If you want to do a team sign-up, finding a partner is on you.

How is the schedule different for teams?
Most of the schedule stays the same. Check-ins and draft dates will be the same for everyone regardless of the option they've chosen. The only significant difference is that the authors who are working in teams will not have their summaries listed for artist claims.

How does this affect multiple fic sign-ups?
dcu_bang allows authors to sign up to write two fics, and artists can claim up to five fics (and pinch hit for more if the need arises). This sign-up doesn't affect that. The team sign-up counts as one sign-up the same as the independent sign-up. So an author could sign up to write two team fics, or to write one team fic and one independent fic, or two independent fics. It's up to you!

What if I sign up with a team and my partner has to drop out?
If you both drop out together, then we will not hold it against either of you. However, our rules state that if someone drops after they've been matched with an artist, then they will be banned from participation in the next year's bang. The same goes for an artist who doesn't fulfill their obligation after claiming a fic. In other words, if only one of you decides to drop, that person will be banned from participating in next year's bang. Make sure you trust your partner!

We hope that this gives you even more ways to enjoy your bang experience. If you have any questions, you can ask them in the comments or visit our page-a-mod post.
