FILL Never Thought I'd Get This Chance (1/1)manialollDecember 25 2011, 10:06:47 UTC
A/N: Sorry this is so late! And short… I just forgot about it and remembered today since I was trying to finish my other fill before leaving for the holidays… Hopefully this is satisfactory even though it’s shorter than the “warm up” I posted earlier. Over the Moon serves as a prequel now but it’s not a mandatory read to understand this fill. The ending of this is yelling for a sequel but… maybe when I come back?
Hope this is an enjoyable read! Happy holidays! :D

All he has to do is get the girl. His freedom is like the light at the end of a long tunnel even though the metaphor was inserted in his mind and he still doesn’t know how to deal with facts like that. The more he thinks about what he’s going to do when he can do whatever he wants, the less he sees any plausible options. School would be a useless bore and he’s pretty sure he doesn’t need to eat and doesn’t feel the cold so money wouldn’t be a strong enough incentive for him to get a job. He doesn’t get as much joy from destroying things as he thought he would and killing is… complicated for him so no prospects for becoming a supervillain.
He is flying to where the girl was last seen and his mind starts drifting. He lets it go. It’s been a while since he saw the inside of VR but whenever he lets his mind wander like this, it always goes back to the same place. It’s a nice place.
Him. The boy. His friend. An alluring stranger. A helping hand. A guide. A force to be reckoned with. Someone he should have been wary of, but in all the versions of him he has seen, the boy has never given him a reason to. Often he wonders where this image came from, whose DNA bit mixed in him thought another boy with blue eyes and black hair would make a nice companion. He doesn’t really understand his personality and preferences and how those came about even without a normal childhood. He was already as he is now when they started placing him in VR and the time he spent in the pod before that was more about observing others and less about figuring himself out.
He reaches the city and drops down in an alley before merging in with the sidewalk crowd. The boy taught him how to keep himself from standing out too much and he could use the element of surprise to cover his lack of experience when he finally gets to the girl. He is even wearing clothes appropriate for the weather even though he doesn’t need them.
Some time passes and he finds he has to restrain himself from making extra sure destruction isn’t a hobby of interest to him. His powers seem like they could do anything he’d like. It’s a real temptation to test his limits when he has nothing else to do. His consciousness is everywhere in his body and although it’s not like having eyes at the back of his head, he finds it too easy to scan every face around him for the girl. He doesn’t remember her name but he figures she’ll be the one who will try to run when he finds a face that matches her description and tries to introduce himself. No one seems to like N.O.W.H.E.R.E.
He gets bumped into a couple of times and it feels very weird to him, like someone is brushing up against his mind. He tries his best to ignore it…
And then he can’t. How could he possibly ignore it when it’s the boy that just brushed against his mind?
His arm is tingling and it doesn’t take half a second before his entire body gets to follow. His throat feels tight and by the time he can move, the boy is already behind him, going in the opposite direction, laughing with someone else. He turns and watches the back of his head get away from him. He’s sure something like this happened in VR before so he bends down and runs his fingertips against the concrete to make sure he can still feel his environment. The people around him grumble and he makes a show of retying his shoe, acting human just like the boy taught him…
He can’t ignore this.
He can’t just focus on the mission and pretend this didn’t happen. For all he knows, the girl skipped town.

Ooooh, nice! I like how the setting has developed with the comic book, and that sense of slowly-evolving freedom and self-awareness. I confess I'm dying to find out what "his consciousness is everywhere in his body" will mean for future Tim/Kon porn, lol, and you write it very evocatively! Oh, and I like the way he's confused about how his personality and preferences could be simply genetic like that--the science kind of drives me crazy about the title, but at a certain level you have to just run with it and have fun, I think.

I'm really looking forward to that too XD I decided to roll with the "science" because thinking about it too much makes everything make no sense! lol XD
Have a great day, and thank you so much for taking the time to comment! :D

Yeah, she probably did.
He runs after the boy.
