Where George had failed to wake Kirk with the buzzer, someone touching him had a much better chance. He stirred a little, mind being dragged out of some very deep depths, nuzzling down into the pillow he was laying on. After a moment of slight motion, though, Kirk settled again.

Bones could attest to the reactions people had gotten in the long past trying to wake up Kirk out of sleep; it spoke to years of being on the streets and worse. It would usually ended up with least a grabbed wrist, sometimes a more violent action. In Bones' case, Kirk's mind knew his roommate and had long since stopped being disturbed by Bones' voice in the room, and had stopped almost breaking the doctor's wrist if touched.

"Jim," he repeated again, one hand reaching out to Jim's hair, threading through the soft strands, getting nothing but a shift and twitch for his efforts.

"Captain," he said louder this time, knowing how deeply Jim slept and how much he needed it. That word might penetrate the fog.

Bones always did know him. That word, the change in tone, struck something enough for Kirk's head to move, one glazed blue eye finally cracking open. The pupil looked around, then half-focused on the man above him. It closed again, brows furrowing, as unconsciously the natural circadian rhythm of his body told him it was not time to get up. "...'ones...?" Not quite getting mentally up to the fact that Bones should have still been in sickbay.

"Mornin', Sleeping Beauty," he said sarcastically, but with more warmth in his voice than most people ever heard.

Then he sighed, rubbing Jim's back with one hand. "You gotta get up, Jim. Something's going on the bridge."
