A new day [Jim/Bones - Asgard]
It was over.
Loki had told Leonard that he was cured but it wasn't until he left the room that Leonard pulled out his scanner and checked himself, trusting in his familiar device.
According to his medical scanner, he was free of the disease. Not just in remission, but gone, as if it had never been in his body. Even better, Leonard's white blood cells were now capable of fighting the disease, should it ever return.
Leonard dropped the scanner, hands shaking. He was cured. He was going to live. A rush of emotions flooded through him, and he dropped his head into his hands, exhaling loudly. Before, he'd taken so much for granted. Being alive, having a future, knowing that next year at this time they'd be together, celebrating another holiday, rather than his death.
Too much, it was all too much. Leonard needed to get out of the castle, to move, to think, to scream, to cry a little. But first, he needed to let Jim know what was going on.
Jim wasn't in their guest rooms, so he left a note saying that went out for a walk, and to come find him.

The trees were huge, reminding Leonard of northern California and its massive redwoods. The path he walked down was well worn, centuries of feet trodding down deeper into the forest.
Everything here seemed to be bigger, brighter, stronger. Leonard's lungs filled with the brisk air and he wondered if just being here was changing him, like Loki's spells. Continued...
