Getting back into the swing of things hadn't been as hard as Bones had imagined it would be. Easier, maybe, falling into the familiar patterns of waking, showering, maybe a little mutual reassuring for both he and Jim that the day would be fine. That they would be fine.
And now he was back in his office. His staff had taken care of things admirably, as he knew they would, but there was always paperwork, the archaic term for something no less boring and tedious because it was all computerized. Reports and inventory and checklists and trainings and professional development and correspondence that hadn't stopped just because he'd been eight years old for a few days.
So after greeting everyone working alpha shift and trying not too feel too embarrassed about how he'd spent the previous week, Bones got back to work with a half-hearted grumble.
He'd missed this.
